Faster than Your Brain: The Complicated Ferrari Monza Concept

Quote:
Ferrari has designed a vehicle that exceeds the boundaries of human control. In other words, the human brain isn't fast enough to operate the controls, only a computer can.

According to designer Iman Maghsoudi, the cars of the future, apparently able to hit speeds of 125 miles per hour remarkably quickly, will be much too complicated to operate manually as we weak willed humans lack, "sufficient concentration." Thus, computers are programmed to take over at a predetermined speed.
In the Monza, the driver is situated in a cockpit, similar to straddling a motorcycle and has full control. At low speeds, all four wheel s roll with full force on the ground. At said predetermined speed however, the computer fiddles with the winglets, or canards, and changes the aerodynamic profile creating lift at the front. This in turn reduces friction from the front wheels.

To prevent the front of the car from shooting skyward with a sudden gust, the computers automatically adjust so that the vehicle stays grounded.

While this seems to be a rather complicated way of travel, the Monza is for now only a study in aerodynamics.

Since everybody else will be drooling just because this thing has the Ferrari name, I will be the first to say the thing is fugly. Cool concept, and I would love to see if the thing actually works like they say.

But it's still fugly.

This is clearly the first step towards low/zero rolling friction vehicles. Think of it as a precursor to land speeders and speeder bikes from star wars.

^like a plain I suppose.

it says in the article that Ferrari built this for air dynamics research.
This is not a concept of the vehicle that will actually make it to the road one day.
Would be sweet tho.
