Cost of owing one from a Nissan Tech.

from a Nissan Tech
Im not saying I wouldnt take one but here is a quick break down of things of learned from GTR school

Brakes.
If one pad is found to be below minimum specs you must replace ALL pads and rotors. Rotors $1,200 each x4. Front pads $800 Rear pads $600. You must bleed the brakes twice. Once after install and once after burnishing procedure. Labor 5hr. @120hr.

Tranns.
Guess what, the "launch mode" Wasn't part of the design. Do it once your tranns warranty is void. They say the tranny will last about 20 launches in the so called " launch mode" And yes we will know thanks to the data recorder. But dont worry the tranny is only $18000 plus 20hr labor. Now say your just an enthusiast and you take it to the track for some fun. Thats fine with us but if you get the tranny hot three or more times you need to service the tranns. 9 quarts of GTR tranny fluid at $80 each plus 1hr labor. Dont do it and warranty is void.

Engine.
Unplug any sensor, ANY sensor, battery disconnected or not the data recorder will know. Change springs we will know. any modifactions to body work air damns spoilers ect. we will know. Every time the car come in for service we are required to down load all data from the recorder.

The good news is if you do maintain your car and get all of the services done you shouldnt have to worry about any of this. The insist the car will take the abuse as long as you take care of it.

The big problem is that it has super car maintenance costs but a cheap price tag. I think alot of people who could afford the car payment might not be able to afford to maintain it

He's probly thinking F$*K I just voided my warranty and I don't even have 2K miles on it! lol

Anyway, just to reaffirm eljoker's post on the cost of owning a GTR for everybody. I went to my local Nissan Dealership to get both of my G's oil changes (I like to get them done at the same time). And after speaking with the service department I turn around and OMG a silver GTR is 30 yards away inside the shop getting "prepped". Excited, I walk up to it and start staring at it (Looks even better in person) and a GTR tech comes behind me and mentions there is carbon fiber underneath and that there selling it for $102K. Well I ask him what are the maintenance costs on it. He goes on to say that a brake change is between $6K-$7K *NOT* including labor and the transmission fluid is around $90 per qt. !!

Don't get me wrong folks I love this car inside and out. But when I pick one up in about 2 years. I will only bring it out on nice days. Can you say: GARAGE QUEEN. I can!!

if i was past the break-in period, i'd probably give it a shot... but i don't feel it's necessary to take off any faster than it already does.

it's almost heart stoppingly quick. every other car i've driven that can go that fast, usually is preceeded by wheel spin, or a bog, or turbo lag, or whatever... this thing just simply - goes.

what i dont understand is how can a manufacture put a feature such as launch control onto the vehicle.... and then say they wont cover it... doesnt really make sense to me... kinda like saying we will put cruise control on your vehicle but if you use it we wont cover your vehicle!
Hypocrites!!

what they are saying is if something breaks while you're abusing it, prepare to pay out of pocket. that's all...

i have every intention of using the launch control at least one time. i don't see a need for it everyday, so this doesn't affect me. i'm going to do 3 1/4 mile runs. without launch control, and two with (because i anticipate f*cking up the first time). and then that's it.

I think the issue is everyone that is buying one is paying for a car with a feature that is meant to be used. Then Nissan is saying, use it and we will void your warranty.
It's no different if they said, well the car has a passenger door, but if you open it more than 100 times, consider you warranty gone.

I think it's a load of **** and because its their first supercar, Nissan is desperately trying to shed all liability. The whole argument that it is the best bang for the buck (which it still is) loses credence when its the best BASE bang for the buck, but all else factored in, I don't know. Sounds worry some.

Well I talked to a tech and he says you can track the car and launch it but instead of changing your tranny fluid every regular "normal driving" schedule or certain amount of miles they recommended, you have to change it every 1800 miles if not bye bye warrenty.

Wanna play? Gotta pay. IMHO I think Nissan is going overboard on the abuse thing.

I guess it makes the case for something like the Z06 all that much better. Still world class performance at blue collar maintanance costs. (dunno about their CF brakes but in general)
