G's & Z's Introuble? 2010 Chevrolet Camaro priced: LS $22,995, SS $30,995

General Motors has finally announced pricing for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, both in V6-equipped LS trim and the V8-powered SS model. The sticker for the LS will start at $22,995, while the SS commands $30,995. Both prices include the $750 destination charge and you can officially order yours today, October 13th.

Production begins mid-February at GM's Oshawa, Ontario facility and dealerships should begin taking deliveries soon afterwards.

Both LS and LT models will come equipped with the 3.6-liter V6, putting out 300 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque and sending power to a Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic gearbox equipped with TAPshift control. Buyers who opt for the big-boy SS equipped with the six-speed TR6060 manual transmission get to play with 422 hp and 408 lb.-ft. of torque courtesy of the 6.2-liter LS3 V8, while six-speed automatic buyers will have to make do the 400 hp and 395 lb.-ft. of twist culled from the L99 V8.

All models benefit from a 4.5-link independent rear suspension, four wheel disc brakes (Brembos on the SS), StabiliTrak traction control, 18-, 19- or 20-inch wheels, RS appearance package (available on the LT and SS), which includes HID headlamps with "halo" rings, spoiler, restyled taillamps and 20-inch wheels. Bluetooth, remote start, USB connectivity, OnStar and XM Satellite Radio are all available, and ten colors are available on all models.

While I'll never buy one, I am very glad GM is upping the game. Finally an affordable sporty car with guts coming from Detroit - it's about time, too. While the Corvette is nice, it's still a bit too expensive for the average Joe. Let's hope Ford will actually spend more than dimes on the engineerings and design of their next Mustang. Go GM, and I hope Nissan is paying attention, I have high expectations on the 370Z. (Now can we have a factory FI on the 370Z?)

Z's? Maybe...though the Z would be a no brainer for me.

G's? No chance. Because they are completely different cars for different purposes.

Well hopefully this will only push the rest of the cars in its class to be even more competitive. Its always good to see cars pushing the limits.. Ive always enjoyed the rivalry between the mustang and Camaro. 400hp!

As usual, there is no weight figure released. I'll reserve my comments for after it becomes known to the public. Call me crazy, but I suspect it'll be somewhere in the 3900-4100lbs range.

Look? Definitely debatable. The new Camaro looks great too.

Dependability? We'll see. Historically, the GM drivetrains are pretty overbuilt and very reliable. Electronics.... so so. But, they've gotten better recently. And since the car isn't out yet, it's just speculation.

I definitely welcome more competition. The more awesome affordable cars.... the better. FWIW, the interior looks great too.

It's no lightweight. Around 3800 for the v6 and slightly more for the v8. (this month's C&D) It should weigh just slightly less than the Pontiac G8.

For the 300hp v6, they're estimating 6.1 0-60 and 14.5@97mph 1/4 mile.

That's good performance and power for low $20k range!
