Lincoln MKS

I saw an ad on TV for a Lincoln MKS when I was watching football the other day. The commercial was slick, and really presented the car, and I actually fell for it. Then I went to edmunds, and a few other review sites and read the articles on what a heap of sh!t it really is. I have lost hope for the American automotive industry. I think the design of the car is very nice, too bad the engineering sucks. For a car that's in the $40k range, this is a true disappointment.

What are your thoughts?

I would think Ford and Acura would have learned it is hard to compete in this price range with a fwd car. Audi does okay, but they are German and have that going for them. In order to compete with MBZ and BMW you need rwd. You can try to compete with Audi, but for a car that almost always has the best interior in class and competes really well for a fwd car, you have to work real hard. I have come to the conclusion you have to go lean towards sporty like BMW or smooth like MBZ, it is hard to compromise too much both ways and have a competitive car.

^ I completely agree. As a matter of fact, I don't believe ford is even in the competition with their half as$ed slabs of incompetence. Even the Koreans have surpassed the American automotive industry with their Hundai Genesis. The car is amazing, coming in under $40K with a V8 pushing nearly 375HP, and on top of that it gets better MPGs, and it probably drives and handles better too.

MKS = Made Kinda $h!tty. It's based on the previous generation Volvo S80 platform same as the failed 500 aka Taurus. An aging platform + mediocre powertrain does not = $40K. Ford apparently thought the addition of a bunch of cheap electronic gadgets would get buyers to overlook the mediocrity of the fundamentals underpinning this ummm, effort. And as usual, Ford is promising an upgraded powertrain a year after launch and after the car has established it's reputation in the marketplace as a loser. I'm sorry, but a company this stupid deserves to go out of business. I simply can't imagine a buyer comparing $40K sedans and choosing this over BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Cadillac, Audi, Mercedes, VW. Even if I could buy the thing for a huge discount, I wouldn't want to be seen in a losermobile. It pretty much says the owner knows nothing about cars.

GM on the other hand I think finally gets it. The new CTS, G8, Malibu, and Enclave are decent complete packages in their market segments at launch.

There is less reason for the Lincoln & Mercury brands to exist with each passing year.

My parents just bought a Genesis. It has tons of power (V8), heated and cooled seats, rides pretty smooth and nav looks good (I didn't really mess with it). It has an idrive like system (who doesn't these days) that is pretty easy to use. I think they paid 43k out the door. Great car for the money. It doesn't appeal to me due to the mushy suspension, but is right on target for its market.

Hyundai has arrived! The Genesis coupe & sedan, Azera, Sonata, Tiburon, Tuscon, Santa Fe, and VeraCruz are all decent offerings in their market segments at their pricepoints. Safety, technology, and warranty are all competitive if not class leading.

I Googled beavis one day, and that's what came up. I thought it was hilarious; a real life beavis.

Unless Lincoln goes through a Cadillac type revival, they'll continue building heaps of garbage like the aforementioned MKS.

Sucks that GM is actually building some pretty good cars...but no one still wants them.

I thought the MKS had the underpinnings of the Fusion. So does the Mercury Milan. Anyway, it's underpowered and unrefined. I saw the commercial too, it's an upgrade from the previous generation but still far behind Cadillac, Infiniti, Acura, Audi.......the list keeps going.
