G35 As First Car
Hey guys I'm really close to getting my first car and have had good grades and everything. I'm looking at some nice USED cars and the g35 is almost positively what im going to get but before I start going to the car auctions are there any other cars that are comparable in power, interior, and style that I can possibly looked at used?

Hi Chris: I'm moving this post to a sub-forum called Other Cars, where you'll find a bunch of comparisons to Gs. Welcome to the forum!

This is your first car ever??
I'd get something cheap and crappy. Odds are against you that you will hit something within your first 6 months.

I am a very good driver that has completed Drivers Ed and has private driving lessons and like 25-30 hours with my parents. Also If I do get the G I am getting it at a spectacular price

As a first car? Why not get something cheaper while you gain more experience?
Also, you do understand that there are alot more expenses in to the car than just the car itself right? For example, OEM tires for the 19's go for over $1,000 itself. |

That's nothing. You haven't driven long enough to claim to be a "very good driver" You are still inexpierenced. Wait til you get in a situation they didn't cover in driver's ed and you'll see exactly what I mean. If you come back in 10+ years without a single accident, then i'll accept your claim.

Just my opinion. You should not get a G as your first car. The G is a very nice car. Someone at your high school will definitely f*ck with it. A teen with a high powered RWD car is not a good thing. Try test driving an Accord coupe. That car will get you around comfortably and they don't look bad either. My parents handed me a Lexus ES as my first car in high school and it was hit a couple times by other people in the parking lot. You should build up a couple more years of driving experience before buying a G or another car in that class. There will ALWAYS be better deals.

Im getting something used with everything included in the 16s or 17s probably a 06 coupe. Believe me where I live driving is different from anything anywhere else aside from MILLIONS of old people and sudden lane changes and aggresive drivers there is no snow, not much parallel parking or whatever. It always seems like people are against kids getting decent cars lol.
Edit: To astonv12 Not to brag but I live in the richest if not one of the richest counties and cities in the United States. People are pulling in with BRAND NEW Range Rovers,Pontiac G8's, Bmws,Corvettes,Other g37's and g35's my car will not be ****ed with |

It's not that im against. Though it wasn't my first car, I myself got my coupe at the age of 18. And I can certainly tell you its miracle I didn't get myself in to trouble the first year.
I'm guessing its a high milage G35 you're getting if you're getting an 06 with everything included for 17k? Last edited by Skaterbasist; 02-05-2009 at 06:34 PM. |

no 30-40K. My dad is using a friend/car broker/jewish guy to get me a fantastic deal at the numerous car auctions we have down here

Make sure you do a history report check on the car because a fully loaded 06 G35 Coupe should be going for atleast 21k assuming it has ~30k miles.

From what you are saying, your parents are probably wealthy and can afford any problems(mechanical) or cost(insurance, maintenance, premium fuel) that will come with owning that car. In that case, go for it. ![]() We're not going against youth owning "decent" cars, we're just telling you what to expect because we've been through it.

Some of us were kids at one point as well
, and we speak from experience. It's not that people don't want kids to have nice cars, it's that we have a few more years of experience under our belts and we know that odds are very high that you will hurt the car. I thought I was a very safe driver after driving my parents' cars incident free for a couple of years. After I bought my first car, I managed to back into a post that wasn't visible, scrape a wall with the front corner when backing up, and damage a wheel driving onto a curb. None of these things were major, but they messed up my new car. It wasn't powerful or fancy, just a normal Toyota, but I hurt the poor thing. RWD and powerful is much more car to handle. The end likes to come out in turns when you're pushing it, and no matter how much you will deny that you would ever do it, you won't resist getting on the gas, it's too fun. So, I'm with the others, buy a car you won't sweat damaging, because you will. After a few years, you will have damaged it and learned through experience things that driver's ed never taught you. This suggestion isn't to make you avoid getting a nice car, it's to save stress for when you do damage it, and so that you can have a much nicer car for a much longer time later. If you do get the G35, be ready to be screwed by the insurance company. Performance cars aren't cheap to insure for a young, make driver, especially if you get the coupe. What about looking at other fun to drive cars that may be cheaper, like the Subaru WRX, for example? Any sporty car will be expensive to insure, though.
