Got killed by a Cobra

Looked like an early to mid 90's model.
Off the line he pulls first, then I pull and we are neck and neck through the end of 1st- into 2nd I'm pulling a little bit (by maybe 5 feet) My nose is ahead of his---- into 3rd after about 1/2 a second he's pulling hard- breaks even @70 then we break it off after his rear bumper hets in front of me. We give each other a nod and he points at my car and gives thumbs up. I do the same as we proceed to our destinations in a civil manner.

Re: Got killed by a Cobra

thats really funny cause i raced a friend with a similar cobra when my 5a/t was stock too...

kept up in 1st and 2nd (raced from a roll)... but third he pulled away...

i think the 5a/t has a very weak spot in when you shift from 2nd to 3rd... the powerband drops way too much... the ts ecu reflash helps this a lot though.

Re: Got killed by a Cobra

I checked out the stats... 0-60 is about the same as listed for the G's but quarter mile is high 13's. It looks like the Cobra s 3rd gear is pretty strong.

Re: Got killed by a Cobra

I had a '96 Cobra, DOHC 4.6l. You have to know the car pretty well and not be afraid to push it to get really good times out of it. I really learned this lesson after getting my *** handed to me by a pretty well modded Civic just because I didn't take a downshift from a rolling start. They have great midrange and top end but the bottom end sucks. A good launch is a fine line between going sideways and bogging the engine down. Oh how fun it was to get it sideways though 6k RPM clutch drops were the best.

Re: Got killed by a Cobra

those clutch drops were probably really great for ur car also.... lol. I raced an older style cobra in my g and beat him through 1st and 2nd and then got pulled on in 3rd. thats the only time that i have dropped the clutch in teh g since i got it

well let me chime in here.. if you raced a cobra... and you were auto and stock.. theres no way you kept up that close. they usually run high 13's. and so it had to of been one of the 93-95 cobras with the 5.0 engine, less hp or a badged gt.. that would make sense from the close race you describe!! the only other possible scenario you describe is if the cobra granny shifted and didn't get ful lpotential out of his gears. like rdawson said, to get full potential out of th ecobras, you have to have som eballs, because the power it gives scares most people and they shift too soon, or take too long to shift. mustangs(cobras) have alot of torque and pull hard.

IT's ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What?? did you do a search on Mustangs and Cobras or something and decide to respond to every post associated with this subject therein? GOODNESS this post was dead 5 months ago!!! Furthermore, I doubt that you know know much about the auto G and it's performance characteristics. In addition, were you there? perhaps it was you in the other car granny shifting...

judging by your sig and seeing your 1/4 mile time, then I don't see how you can call bs on it. A 14.1 isn't that much faster than a stock auto g35. Hell, some people stock have gotten 14flat or so with the auto. Plus, a slightly modded G35 will get u into the high 13's so not too hard to believe. thanks.
