Yup another Hyundai thread...the 2010 Equus

The 2010 Hyundai Equus...I admit...this looks pretty sick.

Quote:

We've seen plenty of spy shots and teasers showing Hyundai's new flagship luxury sedan, the Equus. These, however, are the first official images of the big South Korean luxury car that appear to be from an actual brochure. The Equus is about 7 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider and has a wheelbase nearly 4.5 inches longer than the Genesis, but will launch in South Korea using the same 3.8L V6 and 4.6L V8 currently used by Hyundai's large sedan in the U.S. A more powerful 5.0L V8 producing upwards of 420 horsepower will also reportedly be offered sometime after launch.

If the Genesis is aimed at the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, then the Equus has its sites set squarely on vehicles like the 7 Series, S-Class and Lexus LS460. It is still not known whether Hyundai will sell the Equus in the U.S., though with a base price of 130,000,000 South Korean won (about $93,471 USD), it would be the automaker's most ambitious U.S. offering by far. Hyundai is no doubt watching sales of the Genesis very closely to see if the brand can hold its own in the image-obsessed luxury segments, and early signs in terms of sales and critical success are positive. Whether or not that means the U.S. is ready for such an expensive Hyundai remains to be seen.
Number of unique styling cues...0, but man it looks good.

This company is looking up and aiming high. But it should be priced at $60k not near $100k.

The styling is nice but you can still see all the blatant styling rip offs. ie.. Bumper inserts ala Mecerdes. Spoked wheels ala LS460.

But they looks 1000x better than before. A company to watch out for definitely

Damn this is more a blatant styling ripoff than the Genesis! It screams S Class, with a hint of LS460!

You guys do realize that most cars from Asia and Japan that are sold here are not priced at the exact exchange rate? In fact its typically no where close so I wouldn't go on that $93k figure.

They really ought to have created a premium division if their goal is to sell cars like the Equus and Genesis. Luxury car buyers are image conscious and demand a certain level of pampering that cannot be found at a Hyundai dealer. There's a good reason that Honda, Nissan, and Toyota invented Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus.

In spite of Hyundai's ability to sell a very nice car at a very nice price. People shopping against an S-Class or A8 aren't even going to want to use the restrooms at a dealer selling things like an Accent that starts under $10K.

Hyundai needs to do what Toyota, Nissan, and Honda did, and come up with a Luxury brand.... It would be tough for me to cough up close to 60k for a toyota, but badge it a lexus GS, and it seems reasonable..... Hyundai needs to realize that's how Americans think, though the enthusiast still know what they are getting is really a product of the parent company, at least it doesn't have the same badges...

Hyundai is on the comeup although they will never be that "luxury car"

I had a 2001 XG300L before my G and loved it, tell me what other used car I could have got for $8K with a two year warranty, leather, heated seats, premium sound, moonroof with 35K miles.
Mind you this was back in 2004..

It was not sporty by any means but it definatly served its purpose!
