Why should we be surprised? 14.3 out of the base model V6 is okay for a base engine setup
Anyone who is seriosuly interested in a Camaro with performance wouldn't buy a base model anyway. They would get the V8. Buying a V6 Mustang/Camaro/Challenger is a waste if you ask me.

I don't see how that's suprising. Look at the past V6 models out of the Mustang/Camaros (as of, say, 1994). Maybe some of the '05+ V6 running high 14s, but most of these cars are stuck in low to mid 15s. 14.3 STOCK is pretty impressive for a fairly heavy V6 out of an American car. A few mods and I'm sure it'll be a mid to low 13 second car if not better.

I'm pretty sure stock G35's are right around 13.9s - 14s

..... the "base" model will probably out gun anything but a very will driven possibly modified G35 6MT. The V8....well just forget about it...The G35 is an awesome car, but a drag racer it is not

Will be curious to see how it handles in the twisties.
Base models have always been for the people that want the look, but don't care about the performance as much. Looking forward to seeing the new Camaro in person!!

Either Car and Driver or Road and Track did a review of it (i guess it was a pre production model). They actually called the V6 version an "american g35", which I found kind of strange. Needless to say they were very impressed with the handling and ride quality.

Is the V8 version the SS model? I know the SS is going to be a V8 but is there going to be a basic V8 like the Mustang GT and a tuned or possibly supercharged V8 like the Cobra in store for the SS?

Yes the V8 will be the "SS" model. I think they have done away with the Z28 designation for this year, or perhaps they're saving it for an LS7 powered version (which would f'n ROCK
). Basically you will be able to choose between :V6-Auto V6-Manual V8-Auto (400 hp) V8-Manual (422 hp) The v8 will be the LS3 which is currently the base engine for the corvette. In the corvette I think it's rated at 432 hp???? Chevy has a tendency to underrate the F-Body horsepower so as not to surpass rating on the Corvette, although it's pretty common knowledge amongst f-body and corvette enthusiasts that they are the exact same engine except for maybe a little difference in intake and exhaust systems. Having previously owned a C6 with the LS2 and a six speed, I can tell you the LS3 Camaro will be a BEAST...Given a set of aftermarket heads and an aggressive cam + supporting mods (headers, exhaust, intake, etc.) it should put down 500 + rwhp n/a....throw on some nitrous and you're lookin at 600 rwhp on up. Very nice if you're a fan of American style power.

There are no V6 GT's. GT's are all V8

nah, it will be a heavy, bad handling, and poor quality pig like it's predecessors. I broke pretty much every part on my 96 trans am.
Buyers will also have to worry about maintaining their cars due to GM's grim financial outlook for the future.
