must be nice to be this rich.
so they just finished building a few ritzy houses in a neighborhood across the street from us. the place has its own golf course and a coworker said their club house was 35 million alone. owners of a specific house just moved in and this was was out in the driveway.

I’ve found that most wealthy people are spend thrifty and usually looking towards the future; whereas, poorer people often seem to need to show that they have something (conspicuous consumption) . New moneyed folks and the “broke middle or broke upper middle class” need to signal they have status w/o really belonging to a status group. B/c I deal a lot with people’s financial decisions, I often remind my clients that needing status like this is the fastest way to end up bankrupt or in the poorhouse. Oftentimes, those who know they don’t really have true social standing will try to buy it and in the process, have greater stress and stress related illnesses.
One of my law school prof’s once said that there are 4 stages to being rich- 1) plain poverty but working upwards; 2) middle class comforts with a descent life and money to do some things; 3) the flashy stage, and; 4) recycling to stage 1 where they realize they don’t need to impress anyone and return to a lifestyle a bit more thrifty. |

I agree^ but never heard about the 4 stages. "Live beneath your means" is some of the best advice I've ever recieved.
Sweet rides all the same. Maybe they'll let you take one out. |

There are a few neighborhoods in my area where on any given "nice-weathered" Sunday you can drive around and see all sorts of gems parked in garages or being washed in the driveway. It's a relief when they are actually nice and will talk to you if you approach them

The Q7 is way better then a range rover feature wise.

same price tags too...and better quality. i heard the last best year to buy a range was 04, with bmw 4.4s now its jag motors... but i agree with "chica"...the wealthy are actually the thrifty..and the middle/upper class are the status seekers. its a hard reality, im guilty of that. but nice rides...i still want to own a gallardo someday, and be in a neighborhood like the one you described. well maybe not the 35million clubhouse but a 4000sq ft house and a 3 car garage..he2.

Rich people just don't buy a car just because of the brand...its more of a preference.
