Road and Track gets the GTR-spec V.

Quote:
There's no wheel chirp when the SpecV leaves the line, just a smooth non-dramatic pop. When the engine is fully unleashed, it revs so fast that you have to anticipate reaching the rev limiter, flicking the upshift paddle just as it hits 7000 rpm. The SpecV is more than 130 lb. lighter, and you can feel the difference when leaving the line. Our black test car hit 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Once the upshift to 4th was made, the car's High Geared Boost Control kicks in, giving you an added shot of power in gears 4, 5 and 6. This technology was created to help the SpecV squirt out of medium-speed corners, providing an extra helping of torque at lower engine speeds. It also helped the car post an impressive quarter-mile time of 11.3 seconds at 124.8 mph.

i have no idea where this price came from...

honestly i think nissan just made it up so people with the base gt-r won't just 'upgrade' the calipers, rotors, and pads of the spec-v.

^^^ Especially if they are going to charge that much. Holy moly. That money could have been spent on power!
I definately don't see a reason to get the Spec-V over the base model (Why the f*** isn't it a V-Spec!)

i think copyright issues somewhere prevented it from becoming a v-spec. they wanted a single global name, and i guess they've already protected spec-v.

well, they kinda did add power, yet remained socially responsible.

You are never really socially responsible when you buy/create a super car, are you

I know they created a few extra horses overall and a stronger curve all together, but still. What kind of kit could you get for 10,000 let alone 50,000?

Now if it came looking like this then I could say it's worth the extra money

lol! true... but 485 is a lot less than 600hp (which this engine is capable of doing with a tune and actuator springs).

however, concerning the brakes, think about how big these calipers and rotors are. it already comes with 6 piston fronts, 4 piston rears, and 15" rotors. the 'upgrades' start at about $10-$15k for simple replacements, but for cc, there are no replacements yet. but one could reasonably expect to see $20-$25k brake systems (if not more). i imagine it would be cheaper to just get the cc rotors, and keep the calipers as is (and get appropriate pads).

Exactly why I'm surprised that they didn't give it more power.

Do you really think you need upgraded brakes? I understand it on other cars, but your car already has massive brakes. I just don't think the investment will be worth the minimal gains.

Then again, I can't really afford the base model GTR

nissan said from the beginning of the spec-v project release information that their focus was a gain in street performance and handling, not power. they believe there is enough power in this street platform... kind of like the ferrari 360 - to the 360 challenge stradale. no more power but a better performing car.

oh my goodness yes. the calipers themselves are huge. but the selection of rotors/pads and their applications could be greatly improved.

stock pads/rotors after some track driving:

^^^ point taken That wasn't your car was it?

I still don't know about 50k for brakes though... Especially since that is almost the price of the base model.

lol! yup... it wasn't fun trying to drive the car with brakes like that.

i'm now running carbotech xp8's ($300 front) on ap slotted rotors ($1170 pair). much better.

That is definitely a cheaper upgrade for the brakes, lol

Are they slotted instead of drilled? I've always read that drilled is a bad idea because of cracking issues.
