VW GOLF 1.8T

My son just purchased his first "new" car.....He went with the VW Golf 1.8t. First I was impressed that my son, at the age of 20, already has established himself with his credit, and was able to purchase the car with no money down and no co-signer.....

The car is really fun to drive..........it has gobs of bottom end torque, and spools up pretty nice to around 4,500 rpm.
I didn't want to take it up too high since its a new car....
The ride is a little harsh, but it handles very well.......

With a few mods, I bet these cars could really be little rockets.....
and if kept stock looking, would be a great street sleeper......
When he puts some miles on it, I'm going to have to have a go at him in my coupe.....should be interesting for the first 100 feet.
Since his is stick and mine's A/T, it could be anybodys race.....
time will tell

I could only imagine how the V6 or the new R32 must be......

Re: VW GOLF 1.8T

Go to www.vwvortex.com and visit the forums, the 1.8T is a favorite there due to the capabilities by simply adding a chip and a few mods to get big hp gains.

Re: VW GOLF 1.8T

G4Teej...thanks for the tip, but I think I let him use the car for a while before I turn him loose onto any mods....His last car had over $5.000 in stereo equipment alone.......

Tin...I spank him alot, but I think he's beginning to like it
thanks for the congrats my west coast friend......

I bet that car of yours is awesome......from the way my sons' turbo responds.........I can only imagine the power out of the R32

Re: VW GOLF 1.8T

I recommend the Wetterauer chip and the JL Audio custom stealth box. Had both on my Audi 1.8T A4 and loved them both. Takes the 1.8T to around 200 HP instantly and is a joy. Once that turbo spools up, you'll walk alot of cars and there's nothing better coming off an exit ramp. Of course you'll need wider wheels to hook up .

Re: VW GOLF 1.8T

I have been reading that the 1.8T and the current VR6 are both making the same performance numbers is that true?

Re: VW GOLF 1.8T

Christine, if I could get him to stay still for more than five minutes, I would be glad to take a few pics.....but you know how it is with a new car, no way of stopping him from driving it!
