GPS, AWD, non-SUV

Hi, is there an affordable, reliable car out there that has GPS, AWD, and is not an SUV? This is the wish-list for a car for a friend. I don't know if anything like that exists. I don't think Subarus have GPS, right?

Thanks for your help.

Doesn't BMW have all-wheel drive versions of the 325 and 330? Maybe they are AWD jsut in europe but he could order one from there...Also Audi. And also......ummmmmmmmm... yeah...

What's affordable defined as? The G35x has all that you describe but I don't know if it qualifies as affordable for your friend. Come to think of it, the G35x might be the cheapest car you can buy that has AWD and GPS period. SUV or not. I don't believe any Subaru has a GPS system.

Re: GPS, AWD, non-SUV

I can't think of any really cheap ones. I think the three least expensive choices are:

Infiniti G35x: $37,890 with Nav
Jaguar X-Type 3.0: $36,695 with Nav
Volvo S60R: $41,255 with Nav

I'm not sure what you could negotiate them down to, but I'm sure the Jag is easiest. The G would be my choice unless you want a stick, in which case you have to get the Volvo.

Personally, I think AWD is overrated. FWD + snow tires is cheaper and better than AWD + summer tires, and RWD + snow tires is liveable unless you plan to drive in blizzards.

Re: GPS, AWD, non-SUV

Sorry to reply to my own post (can't edit), but after fact checking it appears cars like the 325xi and A4 3.0 can have Nav and are both cheaper than the Jag, plus they can be had with manual transmissions. Whether they're reliable enough is up to your friend.

I think new Volvo S40 has NAv as an option. T5 model has AWD.

Re: GPS, AWD, non-SUV

To everyone, those are great ideas. Forgot about the 325xi and S40. But I do agree about the FWD being almost if not just as good in many ways in winter (safer because of its tendency not to oversteer). We'll have to check my friend's price range. If it were my wife, I'd get her an Accord with Nav...maybe Camry or Maxima/Altima if they have Nav as options.

You can get nav in Altimas now, just not all wheel drive.
