Any Experience with 00-02 Infiniti I30s??

I got accepted to a college (NDSU) and im gonna be going up there next spring and need a car due to location. I dont want to take my RWD car to a place where they get a lot of snow and have it sit outside. Rather leave it at home and take somthing cheap that i dont have to worry about.

So i was doing some car shopping (budget will be around 6k) and i found some nice 01 I30 Tourings like the one below with the spoiler, 17s, leather, heated seats ect. Also has the 200+hp VQ30.

They look like this (pretty sharp looking car IMO and whats great is insurance is cheap for it)

Its either this or im gonna pickup an SUV of some type (maybe QX4 or a Trailblazer). Im gonna start looking slowly and drive some things. But we will see.

I might get my grandmas 02 Buick Regal LS too.

I wanted some info on I30s though.

Anyone have any experience with these? How are they reliability wise? Its just gonna be a winter beater type car so im not too concerned.

Not gonna lie though, it would be kinda sick to have 2 infinitis

It's the exact same as the Maxima of that time, so it's not too bad. 227hp or so, nice interior. I used to have a turbo Maxima, so I'm somewhat familiar with the VQ30. The major mechanical stuff will be fine, a friend of mine used to have an '02 I30 with ~150K on it, no problems. But it's the little stuff that can be somewhat annoying. By that I mean the fit and finish on any Nissan of that era isn't all that good. There will be little rattles and such. For a winter beater, I'd say it's a pretty good car. For a little less money, you could probably get a loaded Maxima which would pretty much be identical. Unless the Infiniti badge is super important.

That looks like an I35 to me. Either way, my best friend has an I30 I believe 00. It's a total heap, electrical problems galore, and it misfires all the time. Then again, other friend has a Maxima of the same vintage, and it's fine, so maybe his is just a heap, and it's not the model's fault.

I looked at you cant really find maximas for cheap. like, litteraly the prices are exactly the same, with the amxima being slightly more in some cases. i was looking at an i30t like the one above this morning, $5990. Only had like 112k on it.

And hell, 5 grand is a pretty good deal for that. These things are pretty nice inside. Just cant decide though if i want to just get an SUV that i can use for like 5 years or something until it falls apart. use it in the winter, ect.

I just know if i take the G to college, its going to get trashed. Might as well just spend 5k and buy a beater.

This is an i35. The one i posted is a touring model of the I30.

And some times vehicles just have issues. Happens with them all i guess. Ya know?

Watch out for the coil pack issues on the 2000-2001.
