The test is BS. You need to measure the energy stored in the batteries also, not just the fuel used.
Was the Prius batteries fully charged, or was it charging the batteries while running the laps also? If the batteries are fully charged, it will easily beat the M3 in fuel used during the test. If it is not fully charged, there is surplus energy stored in the batteries to go the extra laps without using fuel.
They should have measured the net energy used and than convert to equivalent fuel used to get the true results.
It is TV, what can you say.
Though the test is completely pointless, I don't see how it's "BS". The Prius was going around the track in wide open throttle, whereas the M3 was just cruising around the track with minimal throttle input.

Battery is out of the question here, when you are putting the pedal to the metal, the tiny winny motor and battery is going to do absoluetly NOTHING.

Unlike the larger/ more performance oriented hybrids, where the hybrid drivetrain is used for both saving fuel and or assisting power when needed.

The hybrid system used in the Prius and LS460h is totally different.

Toyota hybrid synergy drive on all their vehicles, including the Prius, use power from an electric motor to assist the gasoline engine during acceleration.

I laughed my arse off when I first watched that on TV...That is pretty impressive I think, But you kind of need to watch the whole episode, their was a lot more to go with it.

Most Prius drivers I see are women and they are usually below the speed limit (I can sorta understand why - 9 out of 10 are on the phone and applying makeup). I give 'em lots of room cuz if there's an accident I don't want to get battery acid all over my awesome Joe Rocket biker jacket.

The best out there right now is the VW Jetta TDI - which if I had to replace my daily driver now I would probably get. I'm really hoping to see more diesels in the next couple years, but with this economic collapse most companies probably aren't willing to take any chances.

Prius cut me off the other day on my bike. She was on her phone and just drifted across 3 lanes of traffic right in front of me.

Blared my horn at her.

Those bro trucks that peel out everywhere leaving nothing but a cloud of black smoke have given diesel a bad name
