Next M3 to be TURBO!
I am actually kinda sad. I love the big V8 in the M3, but sadly it will be gone soon.

I read that Audi is doing the same to their S cars. The they will dropping the v8 in the S5 for a turbo 6 and they will be dropping the V10 in the S6 for a turbo 8.

High revving V8 > Turbo'd V6
![]() I plan on owning an E92 M3 down the future. It looks like it might be the M3 I'll stick to. |

I don't know what to say.
Normally i would prefer a turbocharged car over NA anyday, but when it comes to BMW ///M, they HAVE to be NA. We'll see where this goes

I'm done with M division. With the release of the BMW X6M and X5M (along with this sparkling revelation) it is more obvious than ever that the M stands for marketing (although I did not choose to believe it for a long time). I'll stick with my 30mpg A3 for the DD, and if I ever decide I want to pay $60K+ for a performance car later on down the line I will pick up a used SR3.

BMW became a marketing tool as soon as it released the 1 series and decided to give the 3.0 I-6 twins and later the 4.4 V8 TT.
But even that is acceptable, as long as they keep the ///M's pure BMW philosophy. Call me a purist but slapping any sort of forced induction onto an M is blasphemy. And i hope they still mean an Inline-6 when they say "six-cylinder engine"

One of the defining aspects of the ///M cars were the NA engines. I know they're saying a lighter car, this and that, but I struggle to see how they're improve on the soul of the car by shoving a TT V6 into it. We'll see as the time comes, but its sad that the M badge has become synonymous with marketing. X5 M and X6 M, what bullcrap.

Wow. The end of an era. Looks to me like they're taking the easy way (or cheap way) out. Rather than coughing up $$$ for development of a cutting edge NA engine, they're going to apply lessons learned from cars like the 335i. Make a mild to moderate six, slap a turbo or two on it, done.
This is so disappointing, especially in light of what Porsche is doing. The 2010 911 GT3 has an NA 3.8L flat six with DFI, packing 435 bhp. *That* is the kind of engine that should be in an M car.

Looks like the initial reports of DFI were wrong. But the numbers are still the same.
