Careful what you wish for grasshopper! I found myself playing tag with a BMW 750IL (E38) @ yesterday (redline 5th). The guy was driving like a complete dick, weaving in traffic, playing thread the needle, basically trying to pass everything on the road. I couldn't resist destroying his sense of Tuetonic invulnerability. He likely didn't even know what that little bugger was that he couldn't get near. He sure tried for about three miles though. Apparently physics wasn't his strong suit. That 4,600 lb barge was leaned over in lane changes and collapsing the front springs under hard braking as the pilot tried anything he could to get round that little silver bullet. I think there was a sense of disbelief that anything could resist his 12 cylinder onslaught let alone a tiny little convertible. I slowed down and took my exit while he flew by, still at triple digit speed as if in a rage.

Moral of story.....S2K is a bad influence....it's de debil's car!

I'm a pretty conservative driver, but hopefully the S2k won't get me into any trouble.

I'ma have to source you a supercharger

Forged internals make for a VERY FI friendly motor.... high compression and high redline just makes it that much more fun. 5000RPM spool on a G is considered worthless. A 5000 RPM spool... hell... you're not even at the stock VTEC engagement point....

^+1 Ive been in a Kaftworks supercharged 04'APand it was nutz! VTEC is awsome but boosting then hitting VTEC is another story.

Do you remember how much boost he was running?

For Shane: (no VTEC bump, since VTEC window is bumped down to improve power delivery; VTEC is now also throttle dependant, so that you're not in VTEC cruising on the hwy)

"normal"

"high boost"

Happy Father's Day to me!! While I don't pick up my S2000 until Tuesday I just ordered an OEM trunk lid spoiler and an OEM front lip.

Next thing to order is a CAI. Mike/Spudracer, any recommendations on what CAI to purchase for my S2k? It looks like AEM is the popular one over on S2ki.

Don't waste your money on CAI for an F22C (or F20C for that matter). As most tuning experts will admit, the engine is VERY well calibrated from the factory. Remember the little bugger is making almost 108 HP/L for the F22C and 118.5 HP/L for the F20C.

Hondata, one of the most respected tuners of the S2000 engine, states.....

Tuning Notes.

The 06 S2000 is the first S2000 by Honda to have a programmable ECU. Our observations are that this is a very well tuned car from the factory. There were no peak power gains, but by raising the rev limit will increase the average power available when you shift at the rev limit.

The VTEC transition is much smoother than before. Peak torque may look as if has been reduced slightly, but this is an artifact of the dyno trying to catch the engine accelerating after the VTEC switch point.
http://hondata.com/reflash_s2k_06.html

The common wisdom with the F22C is that the Hondata reflash for about $400-$600 is about the only meaningful difference that can be achieved before you start playing with headers, FI, or engine internals. Unfortunately, the Hondata reflash is not an option for you. The first time Honda installed a programmable ECU in the F22C was the AP2 V2 for the 2006 model year. The new ECU came with drive by wire throttle and a few other gizmos. And before you ask, no you can't switch to the programmable ECU. At least not easily. The change to programmable electronic control of major systems involved quite a few components and new sensors to make it all work. People have looked into it. You'd be better off by far with a mild turbo setup. Actually, I laugh every time I see a comment on S2KI that Honda didn't update the car in it's 10 year run. Actually, they did a lot to the whole car, engine, suspension, top, wheels, VSA, drive by wire throttle, interior refinement, headlights, etc. They just didn't waste money on a low production volume car screwing with the looks and other stuff that doesn't help performance or driver enjoyment. In my book, Kudos to Honda. All manufacturers should be as smart!

Mike has tried to talk me into FI in the past but I love the linear, predictable feel of a NA engine working off a crazy high speed cam. For me, it will be a cheap upgrade to the Hondata reflash and maybe the Toda headers from JK Motorsports in Fairfield, CT. From there, I'm thinking forged titanium wheels to drop maybe 5-6 pounds of unsprung weight at each corner and I'm looking closely at tire weights as I consider OEM replacements.

The spoiler, and lip I consider style rather than aero performance and are therefore personal taste. I enjoy very tight road courses and tiny twisty New England back roads on my daily commute. At the speeds I generally drive, aerodynamics plays little role. Below 75 mph, anything but a massive ricer wing won't be doing much. For me, it's all about being able to corner 1-2 mph faster on impossibly tight turns with changes in elevation and often banking to the outside of a turn. Weight, weight, weight.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. The main purpose I would be purchasing a CAI would be for sound rather than any negligible performance gains. Given my intentions, what are your thoughts?
