2010 MB E350 BlueTec Sedan

Hello All,

I own a 2008 G35-S, but have always been interested in the MB BlueTEC technology. The 9th Generation E-class has finally reached the U.S. shores and it IS beautiful. I am most interested in the diesel version for its ultra clean emissions, fuel economy (nearly 700 miles to tank full), and 210 HP with 400lbs ft. torque doesn't hurt either, plus a host of safety/cutting-edge technology included. I have many reservations though, b/c MB has struggled to build reliable vehicles through the years (despite them being the champions of many firsts...i.e., Anti-lock brake systems)...Diesel vehicles are known for their longevity, but I cannot find very many articles supporting this. I am fully aware of the historical problems with diesel engines, but times have changed, hence 'BlueTEC'. Let me not forget to mention that the price for the BlueTec will probably begin at $50K+...is this price even worth the investment? I am wondering if anyone else has any interest in diesel vehicles, and if so please share any thoughts/opinions. I believe this (diesel) alternative is possibly the best option in light of the global concerns about petrol dependency.

I definately think its a good investment. I have a couple of diesels that ive had for the past 11 years. They range from 200K-600K on the odo. Mercedes has some of the quietest diesel engines ive heard so i say go for it. The price may be considered steep to some but i think its justified. It is a Benz after all.

I think clean diesels are a very viable alternative to electric hybrids. Massive torque and killer mpg. Very reliable engines also.

I own a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the MB CRD engine and it is amazing. The trans was from the previous generation E55 and that is the only thing I could complain about but it is much better than any of the Jeep transmisisons I have ever had. The 3.2L CRD is the best engine (for everyday use) I have ever had the pleasure of driving. It's torque in the heavier less aerodynamic Jeep is amazing and in the E class which I have driven feels even better. The MPG I am getting after 22k miles is right around 23mpg which for a 4,600lb SUV that can tow 7,200lbs is pretty good in my opinion. If I drive it like I should then I usually see 26mpg. In my opinion, for a daily driver Diesel is the way to go.

That will be one hell of a DD. I'd say go for it, and check out some extended warranties just incase.
