Tesla cars are definitely built in Hethel alongside the Lotus cars...

little to no assembly takes place in CA

OK, I was corrected... parts for the chassis is built in the UK, the rest is built and assembled here. But I'm pretty sure that's where the affiliation stops. The motor, electronic components, and everything else definitely don't come from Lotus.
