Ya know... About those CC brakes...

A lot of people complained about the GT-R's maintenance, making uninformed comments about a 'Nissan' tech working on an $80k car. Only GT-R trained (even though minimally trained) techs get to work on the car. Only 3 people in my dealership can touch the car:

The GM
MY Service rep, who is also the Service Manager
And MY tech. Not some other tech, not his helper, just him. Nobody else is allowed to sit inside.

Anyway - I bring this up because the CC brakes on the ZR-1 are so fragile, that when the tire is removed/or replaced there must be a foam cover placed on the rotors, because if the wheel hits the rotor on its edge, it must be replaced.

I was actually thinking about upgrading to CC rotors (AP is coming out with them) if I kept on tracking - because they never wear out. But after hearing about this - I'd be afraid to change my pads or wheels at the track.

On another note - My trunk is a WHOLE LOT bigger than the G37. Holy crap! I can fit more steaks than all of you G owners (I believe the sedan as well). This is my grocery getter when I'm home.

I can fit a 12ft canopy (I bring for track events) along with clothes for a few people for an entire weekend (including helmets, food, etc...).

I honestly think that CC brakes are overrated for 99.999999999999% of people. Only people with dedicated track cars should have CC Brakes imo because every little bit counts but for road going cars I weould never ever get such a ridiculously expensive braking system.

I just bring it up cause it's cool to say the ZR1 has it...even though personally I think it's crap and should be optional.

lol.. the same could be argued about any car that has a fair amount horsepower. really why would anyone driving a car on city streets need 300+ hp in their car?

the zr1 was purposefully built by gm to be the best damned sports car possible for track use. it doesn't make sense to purchase a car with that caliber of power and receive a half-a** braking system. of course someone could also purchase one of the other corvette models that aren't as specialized as the zr1... and no more ccb's.

Because there is a HUGE difference is the way 600hp feel at wot vs. 300hp...and by huge I mean GIGANTIC. And it is something that a lot of people can appreciate ( including most on this forum ). The difference between badass regular big brakes and CC brakes isn't nearly is a big though...heck...it's barely noticeable unless you track the hell out of it ( something few people do ). There are VERY limited people who will be able to tell the difference between CC brakes and a set of Rotora or StopTech ( etc. ) calipers with 15" two piece disc brakes and bad *** pads. The initial braking of a CC system really isn't much different than that of a regular system....only after long ( extremely long ) periods of time will you be able to tell the difference and the difference will still be minimal. Just look at how well the GT-R performes and it uses regular brakes.

I'm not saying they are useless....but they should be optional. They have horrific bang for the buck ( $30+K for CC brakes vs. $5+K for sick regular brakes ).

Orly? I thought most Filets don't much care for Corvettes. (If only it were so easy, Hertz would rent out their entire fleet of Vetts daily)
