Mitsubishi must have gone crazy. O_O

New-for-2010 Mitsubishi Evo MR Touring pricing announced, starts at $40,990
Mitsubishi finally posted pricing information on its new top-of-the-Evolution-ary-chart MR Touring model, and it definitely isn't cheap. A bargain to some maybe, but definitely not cheap. We had first seen this uplevel MR at a local car gathering that seems to attract just about every bit of new enthusiast candy, but back then, they were referring to it as the Limited. Now, it's called the MR Touring and with a base MSRP of $40,990, the top dog Lancer finally cracks the 40K barrier, pushing the definition of "bargain." If you go Sharpie-mad and check every box on the order form, the bottom line might make you think you're actually at an Audi dealer. The full boat 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR Touring will retail for – wait for it – $52,728. Yep, a fifty-plus-thousand-dollar-Lancer.

For all those greenbacks, however, you'll get a wonderfully chuckable, mostly-aluminum supersedan with a 291-horsepower turbo four-cylinder, a paddle-shifted dual clutch six-speed transmission, Brembo brakes, 18-inch BBS wheels wrapped in sticky Yokohama Advans, all working through Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel-drive system to propel you along in any conditions on virtually any surface at alarming speeds. But all of that could be said for the regular Evo as well. So what makes the Touring so dear?

What the Touring adds are creature comforts that make the 40-grand price tag potentially less alarming, turning the car into something that can genuinely be cross-shopped against BMW, Audi, Mercedes and the like with few excuses. It's an Evo for grown-ups.

Standard on the Touring are things like a new higher-res info display between the gauges, an Evo-first moonroof, and genuine leather-covered heated Recaros. The car gains a few pounds with the extra equipment and additional soundproofing – even though it saves a bit by dropping the rear wing in favor of a small lip spoiler. The full list of standard and optional features can be found after the jump along with full pricing information. We've also added a new gallery of high-res pics so you can see all of the detail changes for yourself. At $40,000-$50,000 Mitsubishi is entering highly competitive waters, but we think they will find plenty of buyers. After all, the Evo has never been afraid of a little competition.
50K+ for an Evo??? Would you buy one??

Well, judging from the option list that gets you to that price, people that don't deserve to own an Evo to begin with. Leather heated seats, soundproofing, a moonroof? WTF would you want all of that in a road going rally car unless you're a huge poser that just wants a "bad boy" image.

There are plenty of performance cars with luxury amenities, I fail to see why this is such a problem with the Evo. There's nothing wrong with wanting performance with daily drivable comfort.

Remember guys, its $52k for a Touring model.

The regular road rally car evo will still be cheapish.

Give me an STI limited.

Because the Evo is quite simply NOT such a car, it is a road going model produced for race homolgation. The beauty of it comes from the stripped down, light weight, raw-ness that it has. If you put all this other crap on it, you're ruining the car.

The touring model even with all the cool stuff still kills the Gs. Probably not as comfy though.

The GSR (as they are known in Canada) is this a very quick and raw car.

I'd love the touring model, they look sexy as hell, make great power, super easy to add power and still have 4 doors. Awesome.

I'd buy one, but sure as hell not for $50,000 I'd rather buy the stripped down one for $35,000

If Evo will have the better or same quality of interior as my 07 G, I won't complain about its price anymore. lol

But seriously... 50???? really?

I agree 100%
It's an econobox racer.
Adding all the luxo options totally contradicts what the car is all about.

I agree that's just plain silly...

For that price and all the added weight, they better have a turbo six under the hood...

What kind of car is an EVO? Oh right a rally car, they should all be driven on dirt roads right? Bring back the RS model and sell only those

Times are changing and every car company is packing luxury amenities into their cars, entry level included. Obviously the price would increase. The Mugen Civic Si sold, so I don't see how this won't.

Times like these are the ones that make me think I bought the wrong car. I can't imagine any S2000 owners saying that a car should be heavier and have more amenities in it.

Basically, I like cars with balls, and I like that the Evo has balls. When people say that it should be neutered, I disagree very openly. I think that if the Evo could talk, it would disagree too
