Own a G37, but Considering a Porsche
I've got an 09 G37X.
I'm seriously Considering an 99-2001 Porsche Carrera 2 OR 4. Coupe (NOT CONV.) Just curious, if anyone here owns one?...HAS owned one?..or knows someone who owns one. I know their performance is world class. But curious about Reliability issues. People say their reliable sports cars.

I've had 2 different 911's and 3 944's. While they were all fun, they were $$$ to keep going. My simple 'tune up' on the 911sc was a grand. Every little part was 3x or 4x the cost.
![]() Also, the 911 series is (and always has been) rear end heavy. If you pitch it sideways, it will try to out-run the front end. oh, I also had to put up with the a-holes saying "ya man, I HAVE a big dik, I don't NEED a porshce" w/e. I've also had 4 corvettes. The corvette was/is everything I always wanted in a porsche... only more of it and cheaper.

most people show up at the track with a support car and/or a trunkload of tools, fluids, supplies, extras, etc.
Porsche owners show up with a spare set of tires and a quart of oil. That's where they get their "reliable" reputation. You can take a cheap sports car, and tune it to the point where it can compete with a Porsche, but you'll always be worrying about the next thing that breaks. With the Porsche, you got the warranty. |

hmm, going on other porsche forums, i've realized the motor alone has some troubling issues.
There were dozens and dozens of cases of the 3.4l and 3.6l motors blowing pre-maturely, most cases under 50,000 miles...a few even as low as 12 and 13,000 one thing they are legendary for is oil leaks..i know that much ![]() thanks for the input guys

I would try to get a newer one, mabey an 03 or 04. The newer models have issues with oil leaks but the newer ones this problem is resolved.

The rear main seal is the main culprit, known to be bad on those cars, the turbo model doesn't have that problem because of a different design. Why not pick up a turbo model instead?
I'm actually selling my G and picking up a 996 turbo. Best bang for the buck performance car you can buy, and with the economy the way it is 40k will get you a pretty decent one. 50 a mint one.

The GT3 is just so raw, I can't see myself (or anyone else for that matter) owning one and not doing a track day.
