08 Evo X MR

I am seriously thinking of trading in my fully loaded 08 g35xs for one of those. I realized that I really don't need all the luxuries of the G and I would much prefer a harder ride and a better handling car. It would cost me around 6kCAD to make the swap (14,500km on my G, new 08 evo X).

Has anyone gone from a G to an EVO? I realize they are very different cars and I'm slightly concerned about using the EVO for my daily driving. Is there any other car I can look at? I looked at the WRX but its looks make the car out of the question for me.

You can daily an Evo fine.

Be warned that EVOs are not known for the reliability, and you're gonna want to swap out those factory tires to at least all-weathers for the winter, if not snow.

I'm also going to warn you that stock for stock, the Evo FEELS faster due to the surge of power when the turbo spools, but your G will pull on an Evo all day.

dude.. for 6 grand, you can put a procharger on your G and have more power, more luxury, and better handling than an evo. Looks waaaay better too.
Staying at mild boost levels, you would tear things up.

An evo MR, will sht and piss all over our G's man...and a stock evo would definitely give an X a run for its money, its lighter with almost as much HP

I love how everyone thinks evos and stis are wicked fast.

Do a 80 roll, and you'll know exactly what I mean. Once you hit triple digits, everything is stacked against the Evo/Sti. More rolling resistance. More drag. More frontal area. Less horsepower output. Spool up between shifts.

Exactly - used to have an X ... now im back in a Z... 0-> 60 the Evo will rock you ... after 80 ... even a G35 will destroy an X all the way to top speed

The big difference is that with like 3k more the EVO gets 100hp relatively safely. It is silly to keep that thing stock...

Edit: main thing I am looking for isn't straight line speed. I am looking for a car that can corner well and I just dont see the G beating an EVO without very serious changes.

I'd get an elise and maybe the s2k over the EVO but unfortunately those cars will not bode well with canadian winters.

No way a G can handle as well as a evo. not fanboying evo in anyway but that evo will eat your G in the track and hell if you want something more rugged and mean by all means get what you want man. Ive been in your situation just didnt have the funds to switch over. but if for a good ride is what your looking for then also consider the s2000s, those are serious machines. Id imagine your looking for something practical and 4 doors and AWD is a plus so I'd say evo alllll the way.

The G cannot outmaneuver an EVO. You would have to dump serious money into the G to even get close to an evo in terms of handling. Unless you are taking an oval turn at high speeds like the nascars, the G will not be able hang with the evo, (given we are only talking about the cars itself and not factor in the driver.) Power is debatable though.

If you want a better car with somewhat okay interior the STI is the way to go. I love the GD series 06-07 models. Interior design is similiar to the G, but with a little bit more plastic.

If you're concerned about weather, STI will be a better choice for you. There is a reason Subaru is experiencing double digit growth while all other japanese manufacturers are suffering.

I would never trade a G + 6K for an evo. Evo is slightly quicker and will turn better...but it's just not as sexy and smooth. Plus, the 6K can get you 350+whp with a SC and then you can kiss the evo goodbye.

BTW-Who does 80+mph rolls? lol
