November Sales Numbers

Some interesting numbers.

Quote:
GM: 151,427, off 1.8 percent.

* The PR spin notes that retail sales for the core brands, Buick, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC were up 10 percent and made up 94 percent of GM retail sales last month, versus 86 percent in November 2008.
* The implication is that GM is holding on to customers it might have lost by cutting loose Pontiac, Saturn, Saab and Hummer.
* Speaking of which, Pontiac sales fell 38.8 percent, to 7,426. Saturn was down 54 percent to 3,737 and Saab fell 56.5 percent, to 371. Hummer was off 84.8 percent to 221.
* Last month, Jaguar sold three times as many cars as Saab and Land Rover sold nearly 10 times as many SUVs as Hummer.

Toyota-Scion-Lexus: 133,700, up 2.6 percent.

* Sold 27,385 Camrys, versus 25,224 in November '08.
* Prius sales were up 11.1 percent, to 9,617.

Ford-Lincoln-Mercury: 118,536, off 0.2 percent.

* F-Series sold 30,494, off 19.6 percent.
* Fusion, at 13,774, and Taurus, at 4,669, each were up 54 percent.
* Focus was up 24.4 percent, to 10,196.
* Competion from Taurus? Lincoln MKS fell 27.2 percent, to 1,426.

American Honda (includes Acura): 74,003, off 2.9 percent.

* Accord was up 191 units, to 17,239.
* Civic fell by 4,038 units, to 13,652.
* Insight is a niche model, just 1,403 sold.

Chrysler LLC: 63,560, off 25 percent.

* Search among the minus signs for four gainers: Chrysler Sebring, up 5 percent to 3,044, Dodge Avenger, up 51 percent to 3,571, Journey, up 93 percent (but it was just ramping up last year) to 5,434 and Caravan, up 35 percent, to 8,171.
* But Jeep Compass was off 46 percent, to 474 units, Patriot was off 22 percent, to 1,929 and Dodge Caliber was off 85 percent, to 412. The Fiats can't come quickly enough.
* Ram pickup fell 37 percent, to 9,787 and Ram Dakota fell 62 percent, to 663.

Nissan-Infiniti: 56,288, up 20.8 percent.

* Nissan's second decent month in a row, with all Nissan cars except GT-R making gains and most Nissan trucks and Infinitis losing sales.
* The high-volume Altima was up 43.1 percent, to 15,490. Maxima was up 83.8 percent, to 4,995.

Hyundai-Kia: 46,000, up 33.7 percent.

* Hyundai and Kia don't combine their numbers for U.S. sales, although together, the two claimed fourth spot globally in sales earlier this fall, pulling ahead of Ford Motor Company.
* The unlikely total number consists of 28,045 Hyundais, up 45 percent, and 17,995 Kias, up 18.3 percent.

Volkswagen was up 8.7 percent, to 23,205. BMW was off 7.6 percent, to 18,298.

Again, Infiniti has been kinda quite about advancing their performance. Most
of their cars are still doing 0 to 60 in the 5's in the 13's in the 1/4 mile, while
the competition is already in the high 4 sec range...closing on the 12's stock.

Come on Nissan.....

Go Nissan!

Nissan is slowly climbing up there, the Z & Maxima really hitting the spotlight.
Like the NSX, S2000 and LFA, the GTR was never made for profit and will probably never see a profit. Cars like these are more of a showcase of what the company is capable of.

Infiniti is also on its way to become a true luxury brand. Just needs to shed some weight, bring back the Q, and make an M3/ISF competitor, then its set.

But in terms of driving pleasure, it proves that you gotta make some exciting cars that are fun to get sales. Boring cars that Toyota/Scion makes just won't cut it (and the sales figures just proved it)

Negative, you're looking at the numbers wrong. 4 out of 5 drivers couldn't give half a $hit about driving excitement. If they did, Hyundai/Kia wouldn't have posted those insane numbers and BMW sales wouldn't have dropped. You know there's a recession right?

Edit:
BTW I looked up a few others:

Quote:
Mazda 14,255 units, up 9.6% versus November of 2008

Mini 2,564, down 44%

Mitsubishi 2,925, down 43% (ouch!)

Porsche 1,626, up 18%

Subaru 16,988, up 24%

You interpreted my statement wrong.
I'm saying generally, boring cars don't sell. There needs to be something "cool" about it, be it status, speed, fun, good looks.

For those who don't care, they look for value. And that's where Hyundai/Kia comes in.

And where are you getting the 4/5 drivers from?
If 4/5 drivers didn't care about either driving pleasure, excitment, status or etc then 4/5 cars i see on the road should reflect that.
Don't spread your BS if you made up the statistic on the spot.

Whoa there buddy, see you're misquoting me quoting you... I said nothing about status or good looks... I said driving excitement/pleasure which is what you claim is the reason for Nissan's increased sales.

4/5 was basically made up but how can you deny that if you just go outside and look at the front wheel drive $hitboxes, crossovers, and trucks people are driving. Here's the top 20 cars for November, now you tell me, how much driving excitement did people buy last month?

Quote:
Ford F - Series PU 30,494
Toyota Camry / Solara 27,385
Chevrolet Silverado PU 22,101
Toyota Corolla / Matrix 21,899
Honda Accord 16,754
Nissan Altima 15,490
Ford Escape 15,149
Honda CR-V 13,955
Ford Fusion 13,774
Honda Civic 13,652
Chevrolet Impala 12,375
Toyota RAV4 11,512
Chevrolet Malibu 11,113
Ford Focus 10,196
Dodge Ram PU 9,787
Toyota Prius 9,617
Chevrolet Equinox 9,587
Subaru Legacy 9,308
GMC Sierra PU 8,371
Hyundai Sonata 8,178
That's from WSJ

http://online.wsj.com/mdc/public/pag...autosales.html

So if you're seriously arguing that more than 1 out of 5 people (really I'd say 1/10) really cares about a car with some power and great handling (driving excitement), you're a fool.

oh yeea my bad, the real reason for Nissan's increased sales is because their cars are getting more and more boring most def.

Look at the Maxima...if i recall correctly Nissan marketed it as a sporty, cool, and fun car under the slogan "4 door body, 2 door soul" & Nissan actually describes it as "the original 4-door sports car".

Lets even throw it back 6 years. Infiniti failed to capture an audience with its boring lineup until the G35. The G35 turned sales around for Infiniti; in addition, the other vehicles from the new lineup based on the FM platform ( the M and FX) also helped with the sales. The FM platform was developed with the idea of superb handling and driveability.

If your arbitrary statistics (1/10 LOL please) were true:
How do you explain the increase (instead of decrease) of horsepower? If there wasn't a demand for more power, manufacturers wouldn't advertise it as such, let alone develop more powerful (yet more efficient) engines.
Explain the resurgence of the pony cars.
Explain the resurgence of RWD in the last few years (in the lineup of cadillac which was previously FWD; infiniti eliminated all FWD vehicles from its lineup; Hyundai Genesis lineup; the Toyota FT86).

Sure they don't sell like econ-boxes (because they aren't as affordable), but more people want these cars than you think. You don't have to be a car enthusiast to care about how a car drives; what would be the point of a test drive then? If truly think that only 1/10 people care about how their car drives, you're ignorant.
