Anyone lost to an IS300?
I have had both the IS and now a '04 AT Coupe, i am just wondering if anyone on here has lost to an IS that wasn't boosted. Over on IS300.net there are some people that claim with simple header and exhaust they have pulled on a G coupe through all gears. Just curious to hear opinions and experiences.

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
I've raced some slightly modded IS's and have always won. This was with a 6mt coupe though , I dont know about the autos.
I think its bs to think with just headers and exhaust they can not only hang with us, but beat us. 2003 6MT Laser Red Coupe, Premium, Chrome 18's, JWT Pop Charger, Z Tube- Gone My new Baby 2005 Subaru WRX STI Obsidian Black Pearl =D |

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
Only the thread starter claimed that, all the other members didn't believe him.
There is no way the manual IS300 w/ simple mods can pull on just the auto G35c. I say that as someone who also drives the IS300. Having said that, I actually prefer the IS300's handling because it's more nimble & tossable. To me, that's more important than at the limit handling (where the G35c is better) since I rarely drive at the limit. Truth is, there are very few people & even fewer places where you can drive cars to the limit other than the track. Rarely do you encounter twisties that are challenging on public roads. Daily commutes consist of mundane urban streets or straight highways w/ the occasional twisting & turning (which really aren't difficult at all). I long for the track, yet cannot afford it (money & time-wise) other than special occasions. |

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
i just had this feud with a friend who took his IS over for a quick debadging/side marker smoking. For a sedan its a very small car and i couldnt get comfortable in it no matter what.
after we were done we took it onto a main road. not impressed at all, and stock for stock it definitely cannot hang with our g's, much less with mods. it is a good looking car though and i like it

Then there are people who have nothing else to do with their spare time but to find these rare mountain roads and drive up and down hairpins all day. ; ) ![]() CPV35 G35C Maliblue |

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
im going to have to disagree with the poster that said that there arent places to take a g35c to the limit of its handling capabilities. My sister has an auto is300 and it is a fun car to drive. It is a small nimble car like u said and weaves in and out of traffic very well on teh freeway (i live for 1 and a half car length gaps). It feels lighter than our g's, but if i drove an is300, i probably would have wrecked and died one night when i was trying to chase down what i found out later was one of those s/c'ed benz 500's (wow fast and ahndles well). I was going about 90mph in a turn that i didnt know got sharper and sharper as it went and i knew i couldnt touch my brakes and was pretty commited to that speed (i let off the gas for a split second and started to lose traction) and although i was having to counter steer through it when i would start braking traction to keep the car on the road, it was definatly the limit of the car's handling. After i caught the benz i realized what it was and why i almost killed myself and the girl i was with (girls always lead to trouble). Thing was damn fast and damn good in the turns.

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
What I said was there are very few places, not that there aren't any at all. For 95% of driving situations, whether on highway or city streets, I prefer the IS300's handling. Even that 5% of the time the G35c handles better, the difference isn't significant IMO.
Honestly, after driving for about 4.5 hrs from Toronto to Montreal, even when twisties appeared, I didn't find them very challenging. You drove at 90 mph, at that speed, turns that aren't too sharp suddenly become challenging. Notice in magazines that their maximum slalom speeds are usually 6X.XX mph, or 7X.XX mph at the most. The difficulty of their slalom is such that higher speeds would be impossible. I would say that the difficulty you encountered had more to do w/ your high speed while turning rather than just the sharpness of the turns. BTW, Consumer Reports found that the IS300 had the highest speed of any sedan in their accident avoidance maneuver course, & gave it their highest possible rating for emergency handling, "excellent". |

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
I raced a bolt on IS300 MT 2 days ago. Took off from 4th @ 75 3 times and walked by him every time ( stayed door to door till the gear caught power though ) then finally threw it down to 3rd on the 4th and last run to just embarrass him fully. He was also doing the typical throw it in gear as your passing the car your racing so that made me less eager to race. If your gonna race, race. Door to door, not floor it on the other persons bumper while there not even ready. Then again, I shouldnt be racing on the streets. There is no way an IS300 will beat a G35 unless the G35 misses a gear or is just simply not really racing. Hell I was out of gear and still winning... FI is a differnt story, but then again, theres FI for the G too.

Re: Anyone lost to an IS300?
The IS feels way more nimble...I think partly due to how heavy the G35 steering feels. At the limits though, the G wins hands down. I have both in my household and having lived with both, I prefer the IS300 suspension overall. It handles bumps waaaay better and has less road noise to boot! I have a certain on-ramp I take every day and the fastest I could in the IS was around 55...the G-coupe was around 65 (sweeping curve). The G is tired better but you can notice the IS understeer more than the G at the limits.
In traffic though, the IS300 rocks...it is very nimble. 04 Coupe Auto/DG/Prem/Nav/Perf
