G35/Skyline Explained
I was reading the letters to the editor in Road and Track today and the guy was talking about how he was ready for the new Skyline to come out and how he wishes that Nissan just switched the "current" model's steering wheel to the left side. What I was surpirsed about was that there was no response to his mistake.
OK...This kinda also answers the thread in this section about the R35. Just like the Corvette, the Nissan Skyline undergoes chassis and body changes. From the C1 to the latest '06 model, the C6. Nissan's Skyline has also been around almost since the 1st generation 'Vettes, the C1, and has also gone through several chassis code designations from the C10 to the current V35. GT-Rs of the '90's were given the R prefix in the chassis code to designate the type of engine, the RB series which I believe came in 2.5 and 2.6 liters. Now that the engine is in the VQ family, the chassis is now called the V35 here and in Japan. They no longer make the R34. It was discontinued after the 2002 model year and was replaced by the V35 G35/Skyline which is available in the US and Japan with the same engine and power specs. I find it funny because the teenaged boys I work with also show great disappointment when they see my car and go "That's not a Skyline!" And I go and tell them that cars change their shapes from time to time and give them an example that they can relate to...Honda Civics. They then go "I get it now!" and all is well. Gran Turismo has really jaded many of the newbies and young boys to think that the only Skyline that exists is the GT-R when in fact it came and does come in many shapes and sizes and doors and engines... The next GT-R will no longer carry the Skyline name when the next one comes out which I think is a bad move. The only reason I can think of the change is to make sure those newbies and teen boys no longer make the mistake of not acknowledging the previous, non-R chassis Skylines as Skylines. In closing, if y'all want a 2004 Nissan Skyline, go to your Infiniti dealer and buy a G35. APC is my weapon of choice. APC reeks of great taste. Re: G35/Skyline Explained
it makes sense now...
too be honest and would probably agree with your friend..the g35 is not really a skyline..pertaining to the skyline in japan.. yes..it does have the name.. but It doesn't have the same spec and is downgraded when it came to the US...which sux.. I tell you..if the model of the r34 ever made it here..it would out sell almost every vehicle out there...it is tat popular and people who know about cars..knows about the skylines..especailly starting from the r32's to r34...is the ultimate import car.. ![]() GGG Member Signup

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
The V35 in Japan does have the same engine specs. However the '05 models here will not have the same horsepower as they do in Japan because of the voluntary power cap that all the car makers agreed to for 6-cylinder cars which is 280ps which is 276hp if I have read right.
If the R34 made it here in it's true form then it would have been sold for $50000 which is how much it was in Japan. That is more than a base Corvette which is more powerful. A used R34 can be had from Motorex for around $85000-90000 however. Also, the general public does NOT know what a Skyline is. Do you think middle-aged men who drive the G35 go "Oh my! I have a Nissan Skyline!" The GT-R has become the Holy Grail of boy-racers ever since Gran Turismo came out as well as The Fast and the Furious. No one knew what that car was before then. I bet you that YOU knew what a Mustang or Corvette was even when you were younger right? What do you mean that the G35 is not a Skyline, dyenboy? I thought I just explained that it was 100% a Skyline. It is the 2003+ model of the car here and in Japan. APC is my weapon of choice. APC reeks of great taste. Re: G35/Skyline Explained
Yeah, the G35c is the Skyline but it's not the one everyone oggles over when they think "Skyline". The GT-R is a different beast, kind of like how the M3 isn't an ordinary 3-Series.

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
It's probably just me, but that "older" Skyline looks too much like a Prelude for my liking!

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
i am not sure if all of you guys aware...but from my understanding...there were always skyline gt and skyline gt-r versions....just because we simply is not the gt-r version...does not mean that we are not skyline.....
to respond to your comment, i think what you mean to say is that to true skyline fans, we are no gt-r's ...but nonetheless skyline. i've even seen older model's 4 door skylines the old skyline gt's are not the same kinda beast as gt-r's...but to say they are not skyline is rather harsh....impreza is still impreza regardless they are sti or not |

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
takuyaah...i think your taking my post too litterally..
I am not saying the g35 is not a skyline..I know its a skyline.. but like I said on my previous post..the skyline fans in japan are saying that..they dislike the look of the v35..its more luxury looking..rather than sportier..compared to the r34.. ![]() GGG Member Signup

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
I think what Dyenboy is saying is quite clear: the Skyline GT-R (and even the GT-S) purists don't appreciate the styling or performance of the current V35 Skyline as compared to the GT-R R32, R33, and R34...He knows, as do all of us, that the G35 is a Skyline, he's just pointing out that many Japanese sport car enthusiasts don't care for the G35 as a Skyline and don't particularly care for the fact that it carries the Skyline nameplate

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
i see...from what i know..i don't believe the old gt-s versions of skylines out perform the current v35's that much anyway...right? i mean...for all i know...we have 280hp...and they can't possible have 280 because their gt-r's have 280.....you know?
and ya =) i am not questioning any knowledge you guys have...i am 100% sure you guys understand skyline and versions and what not....i am sorry if it seemed that i was lecturing. |

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
From everything I understand this "cap" they have in Japan for the HP levels really isn't adhered to...Maybe the listed horsepower adheres to it, but from what I hear the actual power output tends to exceed that agreed upon cap
And I didn't really bring up the GT-S for its performance numbers- I mentioned it for it's Skyline heritage "1200 Techniques. Choose One. I Choose None..."

Re: G35/Skyline Explained
There is a mass confusion on the part of American boy racers and gaming geeks. In Japan, Skyline is an ordanry name like out Mustang. People don't really blink at the name "Skyline" but the "GT-R" designation turns heads. That is why Nissan decided to separate the name Skyline from the GT-R, because it is too difficult to built two cars with very different purposes from the exact same chasis & platform.
Those who claim the G35 is not a Skyline have no clue what they are talking about. The G35 (sedan/coupe) outperforms stock standard R34 handily, even the turbo version. GT-R is a well respected name in Nissan history, but cars need to be profittable to make sense economicly. Take a look at the sales record of the R34 GT-R and you'll realize it's a failure. Apparenlt those who love the car are all too young to buy it. (ie boy ricers with Playstations) Nissan realized that they need to built cars for a target audience with $$$. Thus you get the SPORT CAR FOR ADULTS - the G35. Economicly the G35 is a much more successful car than the R34 GT-R to Nissan. For those who keep complaining about GT-R > G35, I hope they put money where their mouths are when the GT-R is released in 2006. ![]() CPV35 G35C Maliblue |
