Re: 2005 Mustang

I saw it "live" for the first time yesterday in a parking lot ... and unfortunately, there seemed to be a certain "yawn" factor to it. And it was a GT... obviously I was not impressed.

Re: 2005 Mustang

Myself and a buddy went to the ford dealer last weekend to check it out....highly disapointing. The interior doesn't look retro-cheap...just plain cheap. The stock wheels have to be the ugliest things i've ever seen. No thanks!

Re: 2005 Mustang

I checked out a GT on the showroom floor last week, as well. They sold two of them that week within 48 hours of receiving them (this one included).

I'm of a similar opinion... don't really like the way things are stock. This one was supposedly loaded, but I'd have to do some mods before I finished breakin.... first being to either replace of cut the springs that make it look like it's been set up for offroading. The whole car sits about an inch and a half too high all the way around.

Interior isn't too bad... but having owned older Fords, it's definitely a throwback to the "way things used to be" for the car maker. Even the guages remind me a '77 F-350 truck I had.... the big skinny numbers. Again, not a bad thing, just a "weird" thing.

I decided not to buy it just because it strayed so far from the concept cars they had presented back late last year.... _man_ were those some mean looking cars. While our G coupes have that "J-Lo" *** effect going on, it suits the car well. The GT has the same enormous rear end (the concept didn't have this), but it looks really out of place, IMO.

From what I understand, the '06 Cobra will have subtle exterior differences from the GT... moreso than past years. If I were buying another 'stang derivative (owned a '97GT), I'd certainly wait and see what the snake has to offer. Besides, the Cobra will be in the same price bracket as our cars... but with ~400HP if they keep the supercharged 4.6 modular in them.

Re: 2005 Mustang

my opinion is that the basic design is ok. that body of mustang has always been my favorite. It just needs to be more agressive looking. I think as soon as we see one lowered with a mild body kit it will look pretty good - from the outside - the interior still sucks. Retro body + retro inter = retro BUT retro body done right + modern interior = cool.

just my opinion

Re: 2005 Mustang

Yeah I was likewise disappointed; The concept was awesome. The final release leaves much to be desired. Lots of bang for your buck however performancewise.

Re: 2005 Mustang

I'm suprised you guys ripped the interior so bad. I saw my first '05 Mustang in person last weekend - it was V-6 model with leather. I thought the interior looked nice in a retro-modern way (mostly retro). I mean the quality of the materials looked good to me, and everything seemed to fit well. Motor Trend even described the quality of the interior fit as "Japanese-level".

Anyway, I like the new Mustang for what it is: an inexpensive muscle car. It is NOT a competitor for the G35, and I wouldn't trade my G for one. In terms of power and acceleration, there are few cars out there that offer more bang for the buck than a Mustang GT.

Re: 2005 Mustang

thanks a lot for all the replies. i was just wondering some of your guys opinions because, i myself had just jumped out of a 2001 Saleen when the G came out and I love the G to death, the navi.....brembos......heated seats........a 6th gear.........but i think i might be catching the mustang bug again. In my opinion nothing sounds as good as a blown mustang with a bassani x-pipe and borla mufflers or a set of flowmasters.............on a side note i just think that supercharging or twin turboed is a waste of money for little performance on a G and thats whats making want to get rid of the G. anyways thanks for the insight

Re: 2005 Mustang

i think all the concept pics were of the new mustang cobra model which does look very nice. i recently saw pics of the base model and gt model and was thoroughly disappointed. i would never get a ford, but the new mustang cobra does look sweet.

Re: 2005 Mustang

Visually, the Stang looked MUCH more attractive (and aggressive) in the magazine pictures; seeing it live was a disappointment.

With that said however, I'm sure the performance will be there. 300 horses and 320 lb ft should put down some impresive numbers at the strip, nit to mention be exciting to drive.

Re: 2005 Mustang

The Mustang GT with the interior upgrade package looks nice, especially with the real aluminum trim that goes from one side to the other on the dash and on the steering wheel. Plus Motortrend got 13.6s in the 1/4 mile with an AUTO GT. And even with 300HP it runs only on 87 oct. gas.

From the outside it looks waaay better then the previous gen Mustang, much more attention grabbing.

Re: 2005 Mustang

I was always a Ford driver, my last was a '00 Mustang GT Vert, one thing I don't like about the new Mustang is it's still using MacPherson Struts, my experience with those is execessive outer tire wear, I had two Mustangs with the struts, and both did the same thing, no matter how well I kept up the alignment, just my $.02.
