05 GTO

I heard that the new 05 GTO will have the 6.0 V8 thats in the LS2 engine for the 05 corvette. This will definitely be some competition for the G35 Coupe, because of its 400 hp/400 lb torque..and similar price range...wow!!

Re: 05 GTO

Yeah, it will be an incredible deal with that motor. Last year's GTO with 350hp wasn't enough to sway me from picking it over the G35C. But with 400hp for around the same price, that's another story. That's enough to make up for the GTO's bland styling, IMO. Plus when you consider the mod potential of that engine, it can make your head spin. What can I say, I'm a horsepower junkie. Re: 05 GTO

It might be in the same class as the G for price point, but IMHO it will never be in the same class as the G for quality/reliability.

Re: 05 GTO

And just to add to my last comment before I get flamed, yes the GTO will probably offer some competition to the G35. There is no doubt that the GTO offers a lot of horses for the dollar....and I am sure alot of people will see that. As for me, choosing between a GTO and a G35 is a no-brainer. I would choose the G because of its styling, reliability, resale value, luxury appointments, etc.

Just like everything else though, it all comes down to personal preference...

Do a little more research (www.ls1gto.com) and you'll see that "quality/realibilty" is not an issue with this car.

Yes, it does have a Pontiac badge on it, but it's nothing like a Pontiac. This car is made in Australia and if you have test driven one, you'll see what I'm talking about.

BTW, 05's are hitting the 1/4 in 13.0 - 13.1. Not bad...huh?

When is it coming out??? Also I have heard that there is a nice body kit for it straight from the factory. When will that be available. The reason I am asking is that my friend is looking to get one but does not know when it will be available for sale.

I don't think it matters how many horses they get into it, or how big the engine is. Its a borring car!

That and there's a tag on the side that says:

"You are required to wear a 'wife-beater' when driving this car, shoes are optional but not recomended. Mullets optional!"

It's my understanding that mullets are required, not optional.

I don't care how fast the new Pontiac GTO is...it still looks like a Chevy Cavalier! The way I think of it...anybody can drive a fast car, but it's all about performance, style, and quality in my book.

I don't care where it is built, IMHO, Pontiac have NEVER been known for quality nor reliability.....not even mentioning their brutal resale value.

I think you missed my point.

Yes, the car has a Pontiac badge on it but it's not made by Pontiac. It's a Holden Monaro built in the "land down under" and it's probably the best interior that GM has put out. I'm just stating this because your first comment said "it will never be in the same class as the G for quality/reliability."

Now, if you want to "hate" on the GTO because of it's conservative styling, then that's your perogative.

Yes, Pontiac does have poor resale value but some people don't care about a car's resale value if there main priority is performance and fun factor.

I don't own a GTO or G35 but I do own several other cars. I didn't buy my Murano for it's "possible" resale value, I bought it because the wife liked the roomy interior, exterior styling, CVT, etec. If I was worried about R.V. I would have bought a Honda Pilot.

I think people who buy the GTO are more "performance" oriented and enjoy not being flashy. You call it boring.....others call it conservative. To each his own.

now I haven't driven one....and I've READ they are fairly quick but....

Can the GTO really be that exciting if they didn't manage to move HALF of the inventory this year of the damn things? Personally not my cup of tea, that and the Muff-Stain, Camaro, FB, etc....sure you can pull out gut wrenching horsepower but NONE of them will ever have the sophistication, styling, HANDLING, fit and finish, quality (shall I go on) as the cars I choose to drive.

I don't see the GTO ever being in the same league as Infiniti regardless of similar price point.

Just my $.02

Ok, point taken. You are right, everyone buys their vehicles for different reasons. I myself, refuse to pays thousands for a new vehicle knowing that in two years time I can't get squat for it.....which is what Pontiac is notorious for (at least where I live anyways). But like you said, not everyone has resale value in mind when they purhcase a car.

Haha, When you're driving something as charismatic and beautiful as we do, it's hard to get excited about (mostly) anything else, especially a Pontiac...

I respect their performance and in many ways still love the good old American V-8 torque, but there's nothing like the beauty and refinement of our G's.
They do set the bar a little higher.

Marty. What you got for hp lately bro. It's gonna take a 'few' to get past one of those, even the 350 hp version. Kudos if you can do it.
