DVD/Nav on the new M

Has anybody noticed this image on the Infiniti News website:

It appears that rear-seat passengers can view the nav map on the DVD entertainment system's drop-down screen (maybe only when a DVD movie is not playing). Interesting.

Cool. I wasn't aware of that but I'll let you know in a few weeks when mine arrives.
I do know that the movies can be viewed in the front on the Navi screen when the parking brake is applied.

I think the reason for that is because it has the rear dvd player, I read the FX models and Murano models with the rear dvd system it works in the same way the M works as mentioned.

Haha, Good point. The kids can watch a movie then learn about navigation.
Should be a cool toy.

I was one of the foolish people that when I got my G35 brochure I thought that seeing Navigation/DVD obviously meant......hey, I can watch videos too!

bah.... thus the aftermarket...

That should be easily defeatable. I have a friend with a current-generation Land Bruiser with nav (no DVD entertainment system though). He can play movies using the built-in changer (in the front armrest) which happens to be a DVD changer. In stock form, he could only watch movies on the nav screen while the parking brake was applied. However, he soon found a few aftermarket bypass systems that fixed that problem. Just splice it into a few wires and you're good to go...although he soon discovered why Toyota engineered the system the way they did: it's too distracting to watch a movie and drive at the same time.

FireBall,

Yes, you'd think that would be defeatable, altho I'd probably be too tempted to watch while driving.

no it does not. i'm driving an '04 fx45 right now, and it does not have that capability... unless it's changed on the '05. also... i'm in canada, so maybe that function didn't make it up here.

Yes it is distracting when DVDs are being played on the Navi.. also when the kids are playing PS2. So I make sure to put in movies I've already seen, or concert videos.

one wire cut:
http://www.avelectronic.com/products.htm

and i mounted the DVD/VCD/MP3 player in the rear armrest:

Cheers, ted

Nice setup, Ted. I bet the kids love that.
Thanks for the link to the mods. I may get brave and experiment with that in the future.

Well I dont remeber where I read it but I do remeber reading about that somewhere. It could be a new thing to the 05 models I guess.
