Ran with a 300C
I ran with a 300C the other night. I know it was a "C", because it had twin tailpipes. Anyway, the race started at around 40 and went up to 80. He had one passenger and I was alone. We stayed neck and neck until we shut down. We went again with the same results. The guy gave me a thumbs up and turned off. I thought I was gonna get stomped. My shifting was flawless and it was about 35 degrees outside (helps alot). Maybe the car's weight (4066 lb) negates the 340/ 390 ft/lb advantage. The AWD "C" weighs a staggering 4273 lbs! That's alot of torque though! Power/Weight for the 300C is 11.95 and for my modified coupe (a conservative 290 crank hp) is 11.84. It would've been a different story from a dig, but a much different story if you throw in some curves. Check my sig for mods.

I wondered how a run with those would go. I figured like you did that they would just keep walking like an X-girlfriend.

DeanG35c6--
That's good to know, tho I'm not surprised that the coupe is on par with a 300C. By all accounts the hemi is a good and powerful mill, but lumbered by the 2 ton+ car body. I would expect then that the SRT Charger or 300C with the 400 hp hemi will 'do a number' on our stock coupes and sedans. Thanks for sharing. c.

The soon-to-be-release 300C SRT-8 (6.1L Hemi, 425 hp) is expected to hit 60 mph in 5 seconds flat and the 1/4-mile in 13.4 seconds. And it's less than $40K!
The '05 GTO will hit 60 mph in 4.8 seconds according to Car & Driver. Too bad it looks so bland. |

It would interesting to put the 300C up against the M45. GSM, you'll have to let us know how you make out when you get yours!!

http://www.pontiac.com/gto/index.jsp...&pagename=home I hate to say it, but if I were in the market for a high performance luxury coupe, I would probably go with the GTO instead of the G35C. I know the G35 has some advantages over the GTO, but I'm a horsepower junkie at heart. 400hp is hard to say no to. |

The GTO is not a luxury coupe. Go to Edmunds and do a side by side comparision of features. I did exactly that and I actually like the idea of having a sunroof, heated seats, climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, heated side mirrors, stability control, head and side airbags, xenons, etc. You get what you pay for...power, but not much else as far as luxury.

It's true that it's hard to classify the GTO as a luxury coupe but if you value thrust above all else, the GTO can't be beat. There's not much that 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque can't fix. All for less than $35K too. The new Sport Appearance package does to wonder to make the car look more aggressive but it still looks too much l like a common Pontiac. I think, instead of just rebadging a Holden, they should have went for a retro look like the new Mustang. Imagine a real, modern-day Goat!
And speaking of the new Mustang, it's hard to beat its performance for under $30K. It's a good looking car and handles well even though it still uses a solid rear axle. |
