Sleepers

I saw the new VW Phaeton the other day and the thought occured to me what a sleeper. You could never tell by the looks of that car how much power is lurking beneath its hood. Another car that comes to mind is the new Chrysler 300. Any other thoughts on cars that look slow, but in reality are monsters on the tarmac?

Hehehe, mine was an s2000 with custom turbo, black grill to help "hide" the intercooler. Then was an STI with regular WRX wing and all STI thingies "debadged". The 03 cobra, couldnt removed the dang badges, started pulling off the clearcoat. Was going to put on the v6 wheels and rear bumper as well but didn't keep the car long enough. My 01' GSXR1000, custom painted, full race exhaust, PC, TRE, BMC, with all the factory 600 stickers. Now have a CBR1000rr, gonna change out the stickers, of course to 600 stickers again...

My old turbo eclipse with over 400hp threw some people for a loop. I can't tell you how many 8cyl I pissed off at the track and off the track. The look on their faces was just CLASSIC, PUUUUUURE CLASSIC. I have to see if my friend has the video at the local 1/4 of me beating a SVT Lightning, Corvette, and a modified mustang that did a HUGE burnout. The best was the mustang after the burnout he rumbles up to the line with slicks on, and proceeded to leave me like a dog. But then...... seconds later, my turbo would hit and I reeled him in just before the finish line. I was FWD with 18's and 35 series tires spinnin the whole way down the track. I will try and find the video.

wait how is a S2000 a sleeper? its a sports car. i think the perfect Q-car is something like a debadged benz (like E55 or SL65), but a debadged E500 can fool enough people and make them wheep too.

oooo and dont forget a 2003 hemi 1500, its mite be a brick but..........

Audi 80 I saw at Sears Point last season. That thing looked stock, but was running low 12s all evening long.

Another car that must be brutal is one of those old square looking Datsuns. So many of them have newer nissan engines, some with turbo and they weigh close to 2000lbs with driver. I had one wanting to run my G, but I ignored him. z32 brakes on this old schooler was enough clue for me to stay away.

My sleeper was a '73 Porsche 914, completely stock looking except the wheels,
still had the 1.7 litre (4cyl) badge on the back.

Under the hood I had a 2.4 six from a 911 with two triple choke webers.

I used to love pi$$ing off new 911s.

I hate to say how long I owned this car.
Bought it used 5yrs old....., & sold it just two years ago.

my dads next door neighbor would qualify until he starts the car a 1976 AMC Gremlin with a 502ci GM Crate motor somewhere lost in the 800whp mark. 8.9 1/4mile no juice.

my old alltrac was a sleeper.
back in the mid 90s import boom, noone really knew what an alltrac was. everyone was into getting civics and integras.
long story short, i used to pull some amazing stoplight launches off with that car.

my next car was an 86 T-Type...again, the import crowd was somewhat oblivious to what the car was. They knew what a Grand National was, thinking the T-Type was a lower model in performance terms, little did everyone know that the T-Type was the one of the more Lighter G-Body Regals between the 1984-87 Turbo Regal production. From a Stop, I pulled a lot of domestic hating import racers...from a roll, I could get some. Some of the more fully modified ones would get me back (but never from a stop). Before I got rid the T-Type, I spent about $8k in modifcations, mostly chassis work. By the time everything was done, i was doing 11s. It looked like any G-Body Regal out there...even swapped out the infamous bubble hood for a flat hood.

The G could be a good sleeper if done well. The HKS SuperCharger for the 350Z would be a good way to start. I like the setup, I hope the configuration for the G35 is already in production.

Cool

Now, here is an ultimate sleeper. I can remember these so very well.

1966 Biscayne 1969 427 cu. in. 425 horsepower M21 4speed, 12 bolt w/ 3.73 gears This is a beautiful recreation of a street sleeper. This car has original 48k body that was repainted and put together about 14 years ago. The original interior is still in the car. There are no disapointments. There was very minor body repair at that time and still looks excellent. This car won runner up this past year at Super Chevy. One small tear about 1/2" at the bottom edge of the seat back. This car is driven so there are a couple small paint chips. The engine still has the 3919840 square port heads along with the correct 3933163 intake the block #s are 3963512. There is a new center force clutch. The factory am/fm is completely rebuilt along with the correct front speaker.
