Hybrid engines

I like Hybrid techonolgy. It has promise. Electric motors provide lots of low-end torque, right where you need it, where gas engines are at their worst and least efficient. Lots of compact cars starting to showcase this.. the Insight, Civic, Prius.

Now we have a bigger car, the Accord, with an electric motor mated to a V6 -- and it makes more power combined than the gas-only options, yet still gets Civic-like gas mileage. This will be how hybrid technology makes a big dent into the consumer market, in a no-compromise larger-car form.

Ford has also spit out an Escape SUV with a hybrid powerplant. They're talking about full-size trucks and SUVs getting some decent mileage and towing power.

I'm wondering how long it will be before this technology shows up in a sports car/sedan form.

I saw the Accord Hybrid at the Auto show, and I was thinking the same thing. Technology may be going in a significantly oblique direction that's certainly unexpected! In a search for better efficiency, "out-of-the-box" thinking that's resulted in better performance potential!

I heard that the new NSX may be hybrid.

With the way gas prices are going today, I can't wait till this technology hits the sports car market.
