Altima SE-R

I really love the look of these Altima SE-Rs....pretty hot looking IMO. I owned an 03 Alty before I got my G and it was a great car. Nissan has really upped the interior in the Altys also. I'd say that this is one of the nicest sports sedans for the price.

I agree with you that you get a lot in the package for a resonable price (in Canada I think the price difference between it and a G35 is around $7,000). I was impressed with the SE-R and what was offered as standard on it. I was prepared to replace my Maxima with the SE-R, but when my wife and I went back and looked at the G35X it was absolutely no contest. I liked most of the things on the SE-R, but IMHO the interior still looks and seems cheap. But, you are absolutely right Canuck it is a great looking family 4 dr sports sedan. Nissan is moving in the right direction.
When I was talking to my dealer about the new Altimas, he thought Altima could be the next vehicle in the Nissan stable to get AWD.

Altima 3.5x??? Interesting. My 03 Alty I thought had OK interior.....but it wasn't on par with the Accord's interior. The exterior won me over hands down over the Accord. The interior in these 05 models (especially the SE-R) looks alot better than what I had in my 03.

When I was looking to replace my Maxima, I test drove the Altima SE-R. Honestly, I loved the car. Good power, much better interior (although somehow not as good as my 95 maxima), awesome exterior.

Unfortunatly for that Nissan dealership, I test drove a G35 coupe a few days later If the price was ~$24k (not $28k), I might have jumped on it.

A few things about the Altima SE-R:

Pros
1) uses VQ35DE engine
2) good HP / TQ numbers

Cons
1) FWD - TQ steer

pirce as tested on this Altima is 36,xxx. It is so expensive since you can get a G35 sedan for about 36,xxx or under out the door. Also, I understand that Nissan wants to move Alitma compare with Camry and Accord, but it makes Maxima into an embrassed position since now Maxima is comparing to TL but it still with a Nissan bedige, i think thats why i dont see much new Maxima on the road as previous model. I previously own a 97 Maxima and currently own a G35 sedan, RWD really makes the car fun to drive.

That is $36K CDN dollars....not USD. Also, from what I can tell, the new Maxima is selling quite well for Nissan. I see alot on the road where I live.

To be honest I loved my past 1994 Maxima, and my 2002 Maxima, but the 6th Gen Maxima just didn't turn my crank. The SE-R appealed to me much more than the new Maxima. Like I said before when we checked out the G35 our decisions were easy.

Look at the sales numbers for North America, in January 2005 alone 5,704 Maximas were sold vs. 3,212 G35 sedans. A year ago the numbers were 4,267 Maximas vs. 3,382 G35 sedans. I haven't looked at the numbers for all past months, but I believe they are similar.

Same thing here, I love my 5th gen but I'd never buy a 6th gen. It's sooo bulky and big. Nissan killed the sport sedan image it used to have, now it's positioned as the "luxury flagship" The Altima became what the Maxima used to be. I like the SE-R a lot, the interior makes it feel like a 4dr 350Z, but for 5 grand more I'd rather have a G coupe. I am yet to see an SE-R on the street and it's been out for probably half a year already.

I have seen a total of one on the road. The only thing that got my attention was that the exhaust sounded good.

Come to think of it, the only one I have seen on the road was the one I test drove a few months ago. They do have a nice sound to them.
