G35 vs Mitsu EVO VIII

Hey you Guys first post in here and would like your feedback.
I am finishing my education in June 05 and have planned on getting the G35 sedan w/6spd. I have chosen this car for the price, HP, 4 door, and I am done with American Cars for now. Now here is where I am stuck. Everytime I see an EVO in the street the thought that comes to mind is "wow I want one of these things". The major thing that I hate about the evo is the wing. I am not into wings and stuff like that I don't plan to go flying soon.
So what do you guys think of the EVO 8 ? sould I get it over the G35. I know that mitsu is not doig so well in selling cars now and if they take the evo out of the market then there goes my chance of driving one, however, the G35 and nissan are here to stay, hope so. So what should I do?
Thanks for your input.

Current car by the way is a 2000 mustang GT. I like the sound of a v8 and power... But I need a four door.

The two cars are so different you really can’t compare the two. The EVO is a pure sports sedan with no frills. The G35 is a sports sedan that blends luxury and performance.

Before we bought our G, my wife and I went to go test drive an Evo 8. We needed to trade in our 00 eclipse GT for a four door. The sales guy guaranteed top dollar for our trade in so I was all hot to buy it. After we drove it we were very much under whelmed. Sure it hauls A$$ and corners great but in the end the EVO 8 is a just $14,000 lancer with a $14,000 motor.

In the end it’s your decision not what everyone here says. As with all cars, they got problems. Your best bet is to lurk on the Evo 8 forums to get a sense of what problems people have encountered on them.

The EVO is more comparable to the Subaru WRX STi. I previously drove a 2002 WRX Wagon and it was great! I would recommend the Subaru WRX STi, 300hp, AWD, excellent safety rating and comfortable enough as a daily driver. Also depending on where you are located, you could trade a regular WRX owner for a wingless trunk.

I would go with Evo anyday over STI. Evo handles and performs better even though it has less HP.

EVO is a pure sports car, a track car. If you are crazy about having a high HP car I say get the Evo.

G is a sports luxury coupe, a different animal. If you want to pick girl get a G :P

If you don't care about the brand and ride comfort, you should definitely go with EVO.

I personally like both cars. In my opinion, The Evo is a quick and nice looking car. Go out and buy the latest MT or RT magazine, there you will find a nice 5 page article regarding the Mitsu and it's competitor...WRX.
As for the G-35 vs EVO, those are two different cars. The G-35 is more like a heavyboxer wearing a tuxedo ready to chill out but willing to fight when necessary. The EVO is like a heavyboxer wearing a robe, shorts and boxing gloves ready to battle.
The G-35 is more for luxury and not racing. To me, the EVO screams let's race. It reminds me of my old '92 AWD turbo Talon Tsi.
So which one should you get...well, it all depends on what you want from a car and what you intend to do with it. They're both winners in my book.

a friend of mine has an evo, yea its quick as hell, but IMO the thing heats up really quickly, i would also worry about mitsubushi warrenty as i've read various places they will void it if they catch u "street racing" via online forum .... i would go with the g35 if u want luxury and sport, and if you want just sport then go for the evo or subie ... test drive them all ... btw i believe the mazdaspeed 6 is supposed to come out soon too, i would check that out too

This was basically my problem with the car. My friend bought an Evo VIII about 4 months before I bought my G35 Sedan. I had the opportunity to take it out on some twisties and the car is scary fast and an absolute blast to drive. As much fun as I've ever had behind the wheel of a car.

Having said that, the problem with the car is captured nicely by shodog. All the money on that car is spent under the hood. It is seriously lacking in creature comforts and refinement. Plus, it just beats the hell out of you driving it every day. I live in L.A. and driving that car in traffic is torture. Drive on any street that's not perfectly smooth and it feels like somebody's using your kidneys as a speed bag. It is a 300hp skateboard.

The irony is that my friend who bought it is now regretting his decision and is now wishing he bought a G. It's a very personal decision. If you want a pure performance car, get the Evo. If you want a performance sedan with luxury car niceties, get the G. I for one wish I could have both - the G for my daily driver and the Evo for the weekends.

The thing about the EVO is there is too many tradoffs. I realize and applaud the way it's made. In mitusbishi's quest for light weight, they left off a lot of things we take for granted. For instance, there is no sound deadening material on the floor pan. On our test drive, we drove on a grooved concrete freeway. The road noise was deafening. The nice recaro seat have to be adjusted manually. I don't mind using a bar to slide the seat back and forth but the turn dial for the recline is a bitch to get at as it's in between the seat and the B pillar. The stereo was just dismal but doesn't make a difference as you can hear it above the road noise. If all you want is a go fast sedan then go for it.

Well if you want to go fast and thats it get a evo cause thats all its good for and it will smoke a stock g. Go look at the lancer its a peice of crap put the evo on it and its a fast peice of crap. The G has style and performance. Plus it rides alot better. When I test drove the EVO I thought i should go back home and get my kidney belt to finish the test drive. ( for those that dont know what that is its a leather like weightlifting belt that I use to have to put on when I rode my hardtail chopper cause if not you would piss blood from your kidneys getting bruised). It all depends on what you want. When i tell people who dont know cars I have a infiniti G35 the always say wow it must be nice. How many times would people say that about a mitsu lancer evo? Its like a civic with two turbos at the end of the day its still a civic.

It's ignorant comments like this that really piss me off. "Just a $14,000 Lancer with a $14,000 engine." To say the Evo and Lancer are anything alike just proves how stupid you really are. I am lucky enough to experience the wonderful worlds of both the Evo and G35 (the Coupe, mind you). The Evo is mine and my dad is leasing the G35. Let me tell you first hand, I've put 28,XXX miles on the Evo and have easily driven atleast 5k miles in the G. While the G is hands down the nicer vehicle to be in, not much comes close to matching the level of enjoyment the Evo brings (especially at just under $30k!) The Evo is a joke when it comes to luxury. But that's not what it's about. It's a balls out fast, great handling car that a stock G35 could never touch. As many people have said, this comparo is apples to oranges. The Evo's ride is not that bad, unless your a ***** like this smokeator guy. I've had my grandmother in here and she doesn't complain as much as some of you. Hell, just last weekend my dad and I parked our shiny cars in front of a movie theater by us and I received more complements from people exiting the theater than my dad. Who would a thought. He and I were both stunned! And to think you guys are driving the sedan (I'm sorry, but they have nothing on the Coupe). Both cars are great and appeal to different people. Before you start blasting ignorant comments like smokeator has, do yourself a favor and do some research before you make an *** of yourself.

EVO- get one if you have "wild child" attitude. You believe in racing everybody down the street or love the speed of a car. However, you must sacrifice luxury and comfort for that power and handling of an EVO.

G35- get one if you believe in a classic, luxury look. You will get a mix of performance, luxury and comfort. If higher class is your taste, this car shouldn't be a problem. However, you must sacrifice raw speed for the classic luxury performance.

You must also realize that you are comparing APPLES and ORANGES. So you must check your attitude and your taste. Nobody here should persuade you, only give you pointers of each car. Go to each dealership if you can’t make a decision. This stuff is not cheap you know.
