New Mitsu Eclipse GT

Just saw a bit about it on a car show. Tuner inspired, has some chops. Forgot the hp/tq but pretty close to us or slightly above. I thought it was interesting. Personally not for me but anyone?

i was flipping through channels one sunday afternoon and caught a little bit of the televised detroit car show on nbc. i think it looks a lot better than back in its laser-look-alike days. i was pretty surprised when they mentioned the specs because my impression of the older and more recent eclipses is that its stock is more show than go (based on the eclipses of friends) until someone mods it to the max.

it will sell. It has always appealed to the young crowd, so I am sure they will come close to their numbers.

What Edmunds.com Says: New and futuristic lines, more power and a new platform should help this revamped Eclipse recapture some of the customers it lost due to the tepid performance of the current model.

What We Know: Mitsubishi's latest vehicle off the Project America platform will be the all-new Eclipse coupe. Using the styling of the second-generation Eclipse as its starting point, this latest version was conceived at the company's California-based design studio. A GS variant will be powered by a 165-horsepower-capable four-cylinder, while the GT will feature a beefier 3.8-liter V6, which yields a fairly impressive 280 hp. This front-wheel-drive powertrain can be paired with either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. Seventeen-inch wheels come standard, with 18s available as an option. Suspension and brakes will remain roughly the same as the current third-generation model.

Personally, it's still FWD...and with 280HP to the front, I don't know about that. Probably have the similar torque steer as the Acura TL...but anyways, I'm not really into future looking cars. The G has nice sharp lines yet rounded at the edges which I really like.

280 hp from a 3.8 liter is ok at 74 hp per liter. However, the VQ is king of the V6s for a reason. If you bore the VQ to 3.8 liters, you'll get 323 hp based on the 85 hp per liter tune the '05 sports are in. Can anyone say G38? I wonder if they're playing Acura's game at high hp and low torque?

I think they got it wrong, its 260 hp/ 260 ft-lb Tq.

that being put to the front is kinda crazy, but even more, if they somehow put 280 at the front wheels, yes, torque steer would be naaaaasty.

LOL everyone always misses it...look at where the mirrors are....NASTY

Also, i think the car would look a lot better with bigger+wider rims tires and lowered. It would look sooo buff. Those fenders are 350z/supra status

To be honest, this new eclipse has a lot of potential in terms of tuner appeal. Visually, it is in need of a drop and some nice wheels. It'd be a fun toy to mod though. Definitely not a car i would be happy with in stock form.
