Pontiac Solstice
I HATE to say it, but this car looks pretty smoove. 177 HP turns me off, but at least it's a 5-speed MT. Anyone know the MSRP? I will NOT be trading my G for one, but I have to admit that it caught my eye when I saw it on The Apprentice last night...

Also check out the Saturn Sky. Its based on the same platform, and will be a few thousand more.

I think this is actually a good direction for GM. They are loosing sales so rapidly because of their uninnovative and unappealing line of cars. There was an article the other day on this and how most American consumers just flat out don't find domestic autos attractive. Hopefully these types of cars (Solstice/Sky) will save the sinking ship that is GM.

The one thing that always turned me off from GM vehicles is the interior. I think they got this right for the Solstice. They just need to put that into their other cars.

The car looks good. For 20K the power doesn't seem bad. I would prefer 300+ but it would probably price them out of the target market their going for.

I saw the "Apprentice" episode, too. The Solstice is kick-butt cool! I don't like it much with the topup, but with it down it looks as good as any Benz or BMW. Did anyone go to the Pontiac website to get a pre-order number? I thought it might be worth getting my name on one then auctioning my place in line on eBay! Hmmm, maybe I'll still do that.

here's pics of the saturn sky... looks similar to the opel raodster, i'm assuming that they are platform sharing? the interior looks really nice. very european like.

They do share the platform, and I gotta say, I like how mean the Sky looks. The Solstice is too swoopy. Solstice like a Z3 and the sky is just meaner.
But look at the back of the Sky..... It is missing something.... where is the second matching exhaust pipe???? Or why did they not put the exhaust in the middle. They highlight that area by making it a different color / unpainted, then make it look uneven.... disappointing.

Don't get too excited. Let's not forget, everyone. This is an American made car.

I like how the sky looks a bit more, has a bit of edginess to it's design and I like the pronounced humps in the back. I also agree the rear looks like it is missing something but overall I like the design better than the Honda s2000 and the Porsche Boxster.
Way too impractical a car for me but if I was older and was looking at a second "fun" car would definetely be worth a look. |
