Changing the fuel filter on a ford explorer

Hey, I was wondering how to change a fuel filter on a ford explorer (1998). Is this something that is difficult? Any tricks? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good news, bad news.

Good news is this is a piece of cake to change, bad news is you need a special clamp tool to remove it. Other than that its pretty straight forward.

I have a 98 explorer sport!

Thanks! Can you get this tool at an auto parts store? Is it expensive?

You can get it at your local auto parts store. I think it's called a fuel line removal tool. Basically just a set of plastic rings of different sizes split on one end so you can slide it over the fuel line. The surface is wedge shaped so it'll slide underneath the sleeve of the fuel line connection and releasing the locking mechanism.

They're cheap. Probably about 5-6 bucks for a set of 5.

+1 to all the advice above! I had a 91 Explorer sport and picked up the fuel line removal tools at pepboys. No need for the expensive ones unless you do it all the time! VEry easy to do, just make sure you install the new filter correctly b/c there is a flow direction. There should be an arrow on the new filter.

I think Kragen has a tool loaner program? (if you have a Kragen near by check it out.)
