$43K covers a lot of ground.

What kind of cars does he like? Is he a truck kinda guy? Sports Car? Luxo-barge? Front, rear or all wheel drive? How tall is he?

Is this a 1st car or a 1st NEW car?

Ya can't just throw that out there...cars have to fit the personality.

~Basically he wants everything in a G coupe and won't fall apart in 5 years.

~Doesn't like the G coupe BTW.
~Does't need to go fast but look fast.

~Like the new 325, but wants a coupe(might be out priced)

I can't think of anything good......but I'm biased

Acura TSX. Good features, luxury, quality, performance, looks, and can be had for under 28k. That leaves 6k for mods.

Please take no offense, but would it be wise to buy a 17 year old a 350Z?

Being 17 myself and having a G coupe (for over a year without accident or ticket), I couldn't agree more. However, he did say he was differnt, and frankly with some of the accidents I've seen, you don't have to be young to be incredibly stupid. FYI though, if he's 6'2", he will never ever fit comfortably in a RX-8. I'm 5'10 or so and I was uncomfortable.

Tell him to get the Z, I fit into it comfortably at 6'2" myself.

Worried about size? Then you should cross out the 2006 3 series. I've test driven the 2006 330i and that thing is compact. I feel that the G has more leg room BOTH in the front and in the back. The 330i does have more headroom though. When I test drove the 330i, my friend who's 6' even rode in the back and after the ride, he complained that the rear was cramped for him. Up front, it was okay but it definitely was not spacious.
