Another reason not to buy a BMW...

Here is a list of German companies and their respective contributions toward Hurricance Katrina relief:

Degussa $100,000
Mahle Industries Inc. $10,000
Bayer $2 million
BASF $1 million
Deutsche Telekom (owns T-Mobile) $2 million
DHL delivery of over 4.77 million pounds of international relief supplies

BMW’s Financial Services will accommodate Katrina victims with flexible payment options appropriate to their respective circumstances. “In light of the tragedy and destruction left in the wake of this natural disaster, we want to be sure that our customers affected by Katrina do not experience any additional anxiety over late or missed car payments,” said Ed Robinson, chief executive officer for the BMW Financial Services, Americas Region.

I think the OP's point was along the lines that companies get tax breaks for charitable contributions (as well as good PR). Thats why most companies give these contributions during these high profile matters. Why BMW or BMWNA wont contribute anything is the matter at hand. Not really on an individual basis. But I could be wrong...

A good comparison would look to see what Nissan, or any other car manufactuer has given.

just out of curiosity, what other corporations have contributed in the donation effort and how much did they donate? honestly, about bmw, i don't see why they have to donate money. it's a nice gesture but not a requirement or obligation since they are a german company. i don't think many american corporations donate money to foreign countries.

I wonder what BMW's response would be if their plants in NC got hit by a hurricane.

If you must ask...
I've contributed a topic for discussion by the intelligent car consumer. You may exclude yourself if this doesn't apply to you.

Not withstanding my recent contribution, I've given to Red Cross for the past 20 years.

I actually expected more from BMW, who enjoys having North America as its major consumer base. Giving a break to those who can only afford BMWs and then only "deferring" the car payment is a slap in the face for the millions we allow BMW to earn in our market.

Nissan donated $500,000 cash and 50 full-sized trucks to to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

Why donate, all the victims are just taking what they need.

What has Nissan, or Infiniti, given? 500,000.00 and 50 cars

BMW gave 2 million!!! One themselves another through their BMW good will. That and they will match what their workers give!
