G35 vs New IS 350

What are your thoughts about that. I know the new IS is faster, but it costs a lil more. I'm considering buying one of them this summer. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on them.

the new IS might be slightly faster than the G, but from what i hear, the overall feeling of IS is a bit too electronical. (typical Lexus ride quality = floaty) also, i am sure IS cannot out-handle Gs...
i was a BIG fan of the IS300, aka alteza in japan, but this new design...well, i am really not feeling it. looks too heavy, and so much like miniature GS. i wouldve really liked it if they did some facelift + more HP on the old IS300.

Eh, one 0 to 60 in 5.1, one in 6.0 and one in 5.6. I'll wait for another head to head to see if it's actually faster. Unless it has two doors, I ain't interested. I will give it up for being a formidable sedan and another alternative besides the G35 Sedan for BMW.

Speed = IS350 > G35c > 330
Handling = 330 > G35c > IS350
Looks = G35c > *
Price = G35c > *
Badge Whoring = 330 > IS350 > G35c

Looks like the G35 still looks like a pretty good bargain.

I've driven the IS350 last weekend. Seemes like it has a well balance chassis and a good suspension setup, even if worse than those of an E90, but the steering is absolutely horrendous. Completely devoid of any feel. Electrically-assisted, should have expected that.

Why are we comparing 2 sedans and a coupe? Shouldn't this be a 4 door comparison?

i personally doubt the 06 is350 is consistently faster in either a straight line or in the curves than an 06 g35c 6mt... i think the C&D article has mistakes in it.

car for car though i think the is350 is a VERY nice car and is in a higher class of luxury from the g35, albeit not quite with the M35/45. i am looking for a 35k price for the is250 and 45k price for the is350 to reflect this. looks aside, i see it as a baby m45.

Wink

Well, its going to be first year model car and you know what that means? eventhough its LEXUS, things i like about it, its the Paddle shift, smart key and push botton start, but its gonna depend on its pricing, I'd take one if its 35~36K with everything except Navi and M/L sound system, but one sales rep said its gonna be 42K without them , will find out for sure in about week and half.

Bad comparrison people... the IS350 looks very nice but somehow it is not going to compete very well with a g35C if put on the track. Now .. if u were to comapre the IS350 vs G35 Sedan... now thats a diferent ball game. Looks go to the IS350.... dont worry the G is a few years old now, hopefully Infiniti will give it a nice redesign for the next generation. Power... hard to say, specs and magazines give it to the IS but i think it would be more of a drivers race than anything. 298 Hp with 3300 lbs vs 310 hp with 3600 + pounds... only side by side tests can give a better comparrison! My $0.02

I posted my thoughts after driving one here.

Car and Driver - $35,000 Sport Sedans

My butt might lie, but I personally think that it will not be a driver race - the IS350 will be consistently faster than the G35, coupe or sedan, manual or AT. I'm hoping this will make Infiniti release a much faster G soon. I disagree on the looks, but that's personal preference. The IS350 looks too much like a tC, the G35 is much more natural and fluid.

That said it all comes down to the drive, and the G is leagues better than the IS350, imo, unless you want a car to drive your parents around in. Further thoughts in thread linked above.

from what i remember motor trend said that "the g35 is the only car that out handles and outperforms a 330 but still costs less"... i think the handling goes to the G over the bmw

LOL S2000 in your nick, come to a G35 forum, and ask about the IS... talk about people with unclear preferences.

I just noticed the Car and Driver article today and my thoughts are that my 05 mt g35 needs about 20 more torque and about 10 more hp and it should do 5.1 because its lighter and has more acceleration friendly gearing. So far I love the feel of the g35 but I'm disappointed with the acceleration coming from an automatic with a ton more torque and a lot less weight. BTW, I was really glad to see that the 70-0 was only 167 feet on the 05 g35 sedan mt. - the 70-0 on a new Z06 was 162. I wonder how much brembos improve on that - although i don't like changing soft brakes often.

Anyway, whats the cheapest way to get 20 more torque and 10 more hp?? At the flywheel that is. Thanx.

edit: whoever said g35 outhandles bmw330, is thinking of the old 330, the new one, according to the comparison, handled better, felt better and its 0-60 was only .1 slower with a SH!TLOAD less HP. It really upsets me how inefficient the 298 hp are, because that was really the selling point for me as opposed to a 255 hp beamer. BTW the beamer is heavier and still so much more efficient.
