What makes M3 so much faster than the G35?

They both weigh about the same, M3 has 35 more hp, a little more trq, but the 0-60 is an insanely fast 4.8, to a g35 5.6. Is it just the brilliant BMW enginnering?

Probably not, but it'll hang or be even...

3.2-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 6-cylinder engine with Double-VANOS “steplessly” variable valve timing

6 individual throttles, electronically controlled (drive-by-wire), with M Dynamic Driving Control (throttle control)

Digital Motor Electronics (DME) with on-board diagnostics

Distributorless electronic ignition system

Truly amazing for a car with .3 less displacement than the G35. But I bet some of this crap has to do with it as well...

the g35 needs more rear end gear to quicken the accelleration from a standstill.

That is just for starters.

There was a discussion about "BMW horsepower" on this forum a few months ago.

Basically...the conclusion was although, for example, a 330 had similar weight to a G35. The G35 had more horsepower, but the BMW 330 was still just as fast.

Why? The BMW has superior engineering and doesn't lose as much HP at the wheels. Because we all know there is HP the engine produces...and then a smaller amount of HP thats gets to the crank...and even smaller that gets to the wheels.

In conclusion, BMW's don't lose HP to the wheels as much as other car's do...so they they can have engines that produce less HP than comparable cars..but still be just as fast because of efficient powertrain designs.

The Germans at BMW are some mad friggin scientists if you ask me...but that m3's engine is still a doozy...heeard a lot about those things blowing, even on the later m3's.

Even though m3's are pretty quick, they still sound like ****. A g35's exhaust note makes the m3 sound like a Geo metro.

If the car was continually pushed towards it's limits, I would expect so. Same goes with the VQ if continually pushed. I'm pretty sure there'd be some kind of failure.

with the m3s steeper trans geasring and rear gearing, they have a

14% mechanical advantage in 1st gear
11% advantage in 2nd gear
5% in 3rd gear

4th gear is about even.

A 330? Did you remove two cylinders from your G?

The 3.92 gears would give you about 10-11% more mechanical advantage than with the current 3.54 rear gears.
