Car & Driver = BMW 325i / 0-60 = 6.1
Raced a new 3 series today during lunchtime. From stop, we both gunned it up to about 55. I won by about half a car length, so I knew it had to be a 325. But dang, I didnt think they were that quick.
Got to work, checked out their stats and they do 60 in 6.1! Holy crap. Since when did pathetic 325's start hittin 60 in G35 fashion? |

Keep in mind the new 325 e90 engine is faster than the old 330 e45 engine it's replacing.
Also, the new 325 is a 3.0 liter v6, it's not a 2.5 like the old one. |

According to bmwusa.com, the 325i Manual does 0-60 ins 6.7 sec, while the 330i Manual is listed at 6.1 sec. If it truly was a 325i, you should have taken him by more than 1/2 a car.

According to Road and Track, the new 330I is just as fast as the one it is replacing. Yeah there's more horsepower, but there's also more weight. If you have a 325 racing you, it's probably someone who did some modifications to it. Other wise, I can't see it even being close to you. What do you have? a 5A or 6M?

Guys, before you start flaiming his driving skills or whatnot, do a little research. The new 325 has the same motor as the 330. Same displacement. The biggest difference, that I rememeber, is the 330 has a "3 stage" induction system, versus the 325's single stage(that's from C&D). This new 325 puts out comparable power to the previous gen 330, but this new 325, as tested by C&D, was only 50lb's heavier than the previous 325 they tested. Also, the 325's lower 5 gears are shorter than the 330's, so it *will* put down numbers that are 330-like.

There's a guy with a new 325i that comes to our monthly track meets. He's actually my real-estate agent and just learned stick in his last car which was an '04 325i he traded in on the '06. I have not driven his car, but he was pulling solid mid-14's 1/4 miles, so it doesn't seem that far off our G35's.

I think Bmw makes up for the lack of paper performance with thier aggressive gearing. The new 325 has less than 200 lbs torque from what I remember.

This throws away their entire naming convention. the last two digits used to always mean the number of liters of displacement. I guess not anymore.

Actually, it's an inline 6. I might be wrong, but I don't think BMW ever had a V6 engine either, at least not in recent decades. And the old 330 had the E46 chasis, and the M54 engine. Sorry, just nit-picking I know. And the new 325 isn't faster than the old 330 either. |
