GTR looks most like what?
What car do you guys think the GTR proto resembles the most, taking everything into consideration.. 350z, G35C, anything else? My friend says more like 350Z but i say G35, just wondering what you guys thought.

To my eyes it looks more like the last gen skyline or the nissan 240sx....but I definitely see the G and the Z in it..it's all nissan after all.
But I think I see more Z in it. |

I think a lot of you guys are not understanding the GT-R heritage here. Run a search on google and you'll see the older Skyline Gt-R's always had circle tail lights in the back, this is nothing new. If you see chevy impala's and cobalt's with similar lights, that style was always on the Skyline.

Ya, I'm getting a little weary of the "they copied ferrari/corvette" thing - the Skyline rear-lights date back to 1955, the first GT-R with the round rear lights was released in 1969, and the current prototype is at least a couple years in the making. Just because you're seeing it for the first time doesn't mean it copied cars currently on the road.

I'd say the grill area looks somewhat like the new Eclipse. But only that part. As for the headlights, That comes straight off the 2001 concept from what I can tell. Maybe Lotus liked what they saw back in 2001 when Nissan debuted the GTR concept.

Kaz, I wasn't necessarily talking about your comments...and the pic you posted is extremely identical to the GT-R. And I wouldn't be surprised if Nissan did indeed copy the Italians.
My point is the fact that people are comparing the GT-R To Chevy Corvettes and Cobalts...and are disappointed the GT-R doesn't look more like the G. The Gt-R Skyline is it's own car with it's own heritage...and it just drives me nuts when people compare the look to cars that are much younger than the Gt-R...and then think the Gt-R copied them. |

Car designers copy one another. That's universal. I am sure I can find something to prove that the original Skyline copied someone else if I look hard enough. As a matter of fact, that's what the Japanese did back in the earlier years of their car designs. A practice still very much alive today within Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and the other lot. Funny that the Chinese are doing the exact same thing for their infant car industry now.
Point is, this concept has nothing new. No new patents, no wow factors. Just a run of the mill car with lots of horse power, and charging consumers large amount of money. If horse power is what you after, I am sure you can bolt on sh!t load of stuff on a Pinto and it can outrun anything on the road. Why pay the premium?

I think the taillights have become "cliché", rather than "copy". The fact that the Z4, Corvette, 360...Cobalt have them suggests that the idea is getting a bit worn, regardless of heritage. I liked the Z in Lemans Sunset until half the cars on a GM new car lot were the same colour.
But the whole thing is not good. I saw a good point made in Sports Car Int'l a few months back- Design balance marries how muscular the car appears, with how slippery thru the wind the car appears. Best examples of this IMHO are the Vanquish/DB9/Vantage V8, the 360/430, the 911, and yes, our G35 coupe. The GTR Proto has some real "new Dodge Charger" lines going on, and that's not good. The car looks brick-like, muscle car-esque. Thick. Heavy. Not nimble. Bulky. I fear those squared off lines are going to be here today, gone tomorrow. Anyone else already getting sick of looking at the current crop of Chryslers? The roof-line and C Pillar are off, and the nose detail is reminiscent of the whole open mouth thing that will be seen on the EvoX, as well as conjuring the Audi/BMW polygon. Who wants their supercar having the bling of an Evo? All said, I didn't much like the Z4 when I first saw it, and they're growing on me these days. This car is pivotal for Nissan/Infiniti. Entry in the really expensive car club is rather tough, a lesson Honda learned with the NSX. Honestly, I did not expect this car to have such polarizing looks, given that notion. D |
