2004.5 G35 Coupe 6spd vs. 2006 IS350

i've been dying to race the new is350 ever since the specs on it had been released. today on the way to my last class this quarter, i noticed a white is350 speeding and zipping around on the road. so, i did what any other third year pre-med bio major would do... i said **** class, this is more important.

i followed him on the PCH. we floored it and dashed for 1-2 seconds a couple times just to mess around but we couldnt do more than that because there were a few cars around. sure we coulda buzzed around in traffic but that would be stupid so we just waited for a good opportunity. im glad he was also mature enough to realize that. a couple minutes later, i looked in my rearview and noticed him try to make a right on some street. so i merged into his lane and also turned.

we ended up turning on a three lane street that was COMPLETELY empty, straight and had very few intersections. the game was on! we only ran one time. the race started at 50mph (which is the top of my 2nd gear, so i was in 3rd). I waited for him to go at it first. he floored it, as soon as i noticed his car jump, i floored mine. we went up to 85 or so mph. he beat me by 1/2 to 3/4 cars. my front fender was at his rear door.

i am really impressed with the new is350. i really think that it is a better car than that infiniti G. infiniti needs to step it up, because at this rate, my next car will most likely be the is350 coupe when that comes out and not the new 07 coupe.

i started out in 3rd. i was at 3rd at 60mph then let the engine slow me down to his speed (50). there was no need for me to rape my engine for a few rpm i could squeeze out at 2. i have an injen cai and i do drive the G well. he did get to take off first, i heard his engine getting louder and winding up (slow automatic must have been downshifting or something) but i didnt floor it until i actually saw his car start moving quicker.

I could give a million excuses like i hadnt cleaned my intake since i bought it 1 year ago, or that i had JUST filled up a full tank of gas, but nonetheless, i could tell his car was faster because i had no hope of catching up, he was pulling on me.

i think the is350 coupe would be a good alternative to the G. i just wonder what it will look like. it all depends on what the 07 coupe has to offer in regards to power, luxery and looks.

Not surprising. It is a newer, faster car. I bet you could take him on the twisties though The IS350 is a good car but the next generation G will be faster...after all, Nissan has ALWAYS been about the horsepower

im not suprised at all............its a faster car in general.........i dont know why you would get that as your next car but what ever........good story

A guy I work with has the is350.. We mess around getting onto the highway almost 3-4 times a week.. Its a 2 lane downhill onramp... He pulls on me every single time.. I also have a 04.5 6MT...No mods... All these pulls were from anywhere from 5-20 mph till about 85 90 where we shut down, normal speed for I-95 down in So Florida... Only chance I have is if I get jump on him. Then its a catch up game and he doesnt have enough room to catch me.. But his car is faster.... Who cars...

you had a slower start since you saw him flooring his car then you floored.
obviously IS350 aint a slow car so it does make sense.
yes if they released coupe version of IS350, it would swing lots of G coupe members.

Exactly, lexus can boast all they want for a year for having the most horsepower in class, but when the new G comes out, for sure it will be on top again. But stock for stock from a roll, the is350 should win. From launch, 6mt G vs IS, my money is on the G. You only lost by a little and he got the jump

you shouldn't have waited for him to go at it first, there was a small boost/ edge for him. but still the is350 is promising, fast car

Um, 50mph @ 3rd gear? That's probably why you lost especially since you guys only went up to 85mph. My brother has the IS350 and it doesn't feel all that fast, but pretty sweet for an auto.

Maybe you guys need to stop eating for a month.
