C6 Vette or Lotus Exige/Elise?

I'm in the market for a new weekend car and I need some advice on these two cars. I also considered the M3 and Cayman S but I really need a t-top or droptop of some sort. So which one would you take and why? I will probably turbo it as well.

Depends on what you do during weekend.

For track use nothing beats the Lotus in this bunch.

For weekend canyon cruising I would go with Cayman S.

For weekend drag car nothing other then C6 of course.

For weekend fun car I would go with M3, as I will need my backseat for .

I'm sorry but I wasn't clear in my post. I "considered" the Cayman and M3 but I decided I needed an open-top car of some sort so I'm just asking about the Elise vs C6.

I do a lot of mountain driving and twisty country road cruising. I also like cruising in downtown DC on weekends. Sometimes I go to the local drag racing scene to pimp around my ride. I'll probably only go to a road course track once or twice a year. Not a big fan of dragstrips although I do the occasional stoplight race.

Its sounded both C6 or M3 Convertible will satisfy your need. However the trade offs are 2 back seat and speed.

The way I look at it, if you single and into Women then pick the one that is more appealing to the crowd you hang out with. My personal experience that Asian & European are into German and Blondes likes C6. Just IMO.

Actually the C6 with Z51 option will beat a Lotus Elise on the track and autrocross, and is much more comfortable and easy to live with. Why you think the C6 is a drag car is beyond me. You obviously have never been in a C6 or a C5 Z06.

Here's how I would sum them up:

-Go with the Lotus if you are obsessed with driving the lightest weight production sports car available, and want to have a lot of fun without any consideration to practicality or comfort.

-Go with the Porsche if you care more about image and brand name than performance, and are willing to pay for that image.

-Go with the Corvette if you want the best all around performance sports car for the money that does extremely well at autocross, road course, drag strip, AND can carry you and a passenger and all your stuff in total comfort while getting 28 MPG reliably.

Yeah but corvettes are on every street corner, I say go for something a little more unique (of course, no offense meant z06).

I would say go with the Exige because I have heard it is an absolute blast to drive, and it sounds like you will get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction out of your $.

If you can fit into the Elise and you don't mind the major annoyances with the car (getting in and out is a b!tch, very harsh ride on the freeway), then get the Lotus.

My friend is 6'5 and he just got his Elise. I think he is crazy, he just baaaaarely fits in it. We were rubbing shoulders when we were both in it.

Go with the Elise. I was origianlly number 65 on the list for an '05, but the nearest dealer was a good 2.5 hrs away. Also, the reliability is a little questionable, but far superior to any other Lotus. I will probably ditch the G for an Elise or exige next year.

Z06ified, sounds like someone is getting a bit defensive about their Vette. My comment were purely specific for the 4 cars he listed. Won't you agree that the Vette is the drag car of the bunch with the kind of torque it put out.

The rest of the cars on the list are easy to drive where the Vette is a Beast by itself. Yes, I test drove the Vette before and I always loves the Vette been raised in White suber all my life as a lonely Asian. The only thing that prohibit me from owning a Vette is that I can not drive one without killing myself. Its has too much raw torque then I can handle or at least its not liking the way I drive. My favorite Vette is the silver Vette in the Movie ConAir.

you get so much more car for the money if you go with the vette. Not to mention the potential power output of that engine.

I wasn't being defensive. I enjoy my Z06, and I could care less what anyone else thinks of it. I enjoy it, and that's all that matters. The only thing that annoys me is when people post opinions that aren't based on fact, or post completely incorrect information - then I feel compelled to correct them.

When people call a car the "drag car" of the bunch, to me it implies that that is all the car is good at - drag racing, and nothing else. A lot of people, especially much of the import-biased bunch who frequent this forum, think the Corvette is only good in a straight line, and can't do anything else worth a damn. I thought you were one of them when I read your post.

All I'm saying is, the Corvette was never designed to be a drag car. Proof is that it has an IRS. Anyone into drag racing knows a live rear axle makes the best and strongest drag setup. The fact that the Corvette happens to do well at drag racing is circumstantial, and a mere side effect of being a high powered sports car. Buy a Corvette for only drag racing, and you'll be completely missing the point of the car.

A Ferrari F430 makes some good quarter mile times too, for the same reasons the Corvette does. Would you call an F430 the drag car of the bunch?

I am with Z06....

The Corvette is really the most practical, and even if they are more common than the Elise...they will still turn heads, especially if modded nicely.

I'm sorry but the Elise is not practical, it's cramped, harsh ride, and God Forbid you get into an accident....it's basically a soda can...I believe the Corvette should have a higher impact rating.

Come on Z06, you have to admit you are a bit defensive...

Every time somebody posts something about corvettes (z06 or not), I start my stopwatch to see how long it takes you to defend it, tell us how amazing they are, how we don't know what it's really like etc
