The return of American Muscle...again

http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/challenger.html

First the new "old" Mustang and now this. Wow, the car industry is getting interesting. It seems the return of the American Muscle car is gaining steam. I know it's not very original, but for someone like me in their early 40s it's a chance to buy the car you may have wanted when you were too young to drive. I remember in high school there was a early 70s Olds 442, a 68 fastback Mustang and a few other muscle cars. I was stuck driving my 1976 Datsun B210. I love my G35 because it's the perfect mix of performance, handling, comfort and reliability. That said, if I had an extra 35k laying around this would be a fun 2nd car. I doubt this would have much appeal to the younger crowd, but I could see these selling pretty well to the 35+ crowd. Now I just wonder if it comes with an 8 track. I still like the Stang better, but I this is better than the Charger.

I think this is going to get moved by the admins......oh well

I'm 33.......I WANT ONE!!!

I think this is better than both the Mustang and the Charger. Unless ofcourse, we are talking about a Mustang with a Roush body kit...but then again, I think I would still rather have the Challenger instead.

My brother and I would love to see and hear this in person. I am being lazy and didnt read the article.....wonder if this is going to be a production car one day?

Thanks for posting

I posted this a few days ago in the other cars forum. Just got the new R&T today and guess what's on the cover? I think I'm in love.

Glad to hear I was wrong about the younger crowd. This is making the show car circuit for 2006 and production could happen somewhere b/w 2007/2009. I hear Dodge received a lot of complaints about a 4 door Charger.

They already ruined the Charger name in the early '80's when they introduced an Opel or something like that as a Charger, what a joke. I don't recall Dodge trashing the Challenger name though.

Old school coming back ....lol

Yeah, the big blocks are nice. I've had my share of a few. My fav being a 427 vette.
Karz with ballz ...lol
That was also when gas was cheap, I mean real cheap, and there was lead in the gas too.

Rise in the gas prices and the insurance companies kinda put an end to production muscle cars.

Nothing like

power

Yeah, but at least Dodge is making it smart enough to shut down half the engine when it's not needed.

Well, before it gets moved..............don't dismiss the upcoming Shelby GT500 Mustang, that looks mean!

Yeah, I think my dream car would be the Shelby GT500 ragtop. I've heard prices will be in around 40K which is a bargin for the performance. Plus the resale value should remain pretty high since production will be limited.

Oh, wait, in the late 70's or early '80's, there was a Challenger, made by Mitsubishi.

Wow. This one is going to go over like a case of bud being dropped on a AA meeting.

My buddy brought the new R&T into work the other day and there is an entire spread on this car. Intense.

I lived through the tail end of the Muscle Car era, drove a 70 Chevelle SS - my buddy had the Challenger - and this bad boy is all that and a bag of chips.

I mean really, the lines look like they are straight off a modernized rendition of the original 70s Challenger, add a modern Hemi and a Diamler independent suspension/platform (same one the 300C uses).

This one has middle aged crisis written all over it.

If domestic makers are going to take on the Japanese, this is definitely one place they can dominate. Just not so sure why Ford was the only one that seemed to have a clue as to how to go about doing this correctly.

Chevy is seriously lagging....Pontiac totally missed the mark...I heard a while back there will be an 07 Camaro SS, but have seen nothing about it lately in the trade rags. The Impala/Monte Carlo SS cars cannot be all they have to offer to address this space.

"Rise in the gas prices and the insurance companies kinda put an end to production muscle cars."

14mpg city/20mpg highway sounds about as good as 90% of the SUVs on the road today.

Also, wrt to Insurance, this one may fly in under the radar as there is no historic crash data on this model like there is the stang/vette.

I figured this out when I almost bought one of the new GTOs....hell, the insurance was cheap on it compared to the Mustang.
