how to pick up.
Hey,
My friend has a 99 Maxima, althought i dont like it that much his a good driver. Most the time when i'm sitting beside em, i put on my seatbelt at the back.lol That car has i think 190Hp which isnt that much compare to our G's. He has a auto, i just dont know how he makes his car pickup like that. He has nothing installed, everything is stock. He always keeps saying how he wants to race me in the summer but from inside i'm scared what if he beats me, and thats going to be a shame if a 99 maxi beats my G .I havent race ever in past, so i have no experience. So When your driving a auto or auto with triptronic. How would you take off? How far do you push down the gas padle? if i'm using the triptronic mode at which KMs should i change it to the next gear? I was reading in the manual, it says the max should be 56KM which i think thats HIGH! i think they were talking about the M not Triptronic. |

it's an auto... nothing to it... just mash the accelerator and hold on to your nuts.

the general rule of thumb is the shift right on or right before your tach meter kisses the redline, that'll put u right back into the "powerband" of the engine during the next gear.
Also, could he be lying about his car? He might have stealth mods. I don't know, just putting up the possibility. I am no expert in driving, but as far as i know, if u're driving an auto, I will go easy in the beginning of first gear just to get enough grip then floor the pedal all the way (you do not have to release the pedal a bit even during shifts). Don't listen to the manual at this part, just as i've said, shift at redline. |

Got it...I should play with em in the manual mode. Althought i found the auto mode more smooth when shifting gears. I just have one more question, my teacher at school drives a A4 its a manual He adviced me not to shift down with the Shiftronic because after all it has a transmission. Shiftronic or triptronic is only ment to gear up... I'm liltle confused. Is he right? When shifting down should i always give lil gas? I am scared since after all this is a auto.

I have own a 93” 160 hp , 95” 190 hp and 2001” 227 hp anniversary Maxima. The 99 is similar to my 95 SE, this car weighs around 3,010 lbs and runs very well in the stock version (0-60 6.6 with manual). It would depend on what mod's he may have to even come close you in a race. Just tell him winner buys dinner and enjoy a good meal at the place of your choice.
Suggestions: Do not use the sequential manual shifting; the automatic mode will take care of business just fine. Turn VDC off, stay in drive, hold brake, slight acceleration to 2000 rpm's, get set, ready, let off brake and slam on the gas at the same time. Then wipe that silly grin off your face.... 2004 G35 Coupe|5AT| Brilliant Silver|Graphite Leather|Premium|Perfomance|Aero| My "G"

Shouldnt I avoid doing this since its bad for the car? Not that i dont wanna win but for me the car comes first and then the race. If its not good for the car i wouldnt do it. Its my dream car and i dont want to abuse it. Hope you guys understand what i mean.. Last edited by Godfather; 01-13-2006 at 04:34 PM. |

dude, you wanted advice on how to race your friend, what do you expect? No one giving advice is gonna tell you to granny shift your g for a race...
you could probably leave vdc on and still smoke him.... only way to know is run it a couple of times and be done with it...it can't hurt...also, the body has a weird way of sensing things differently in different locations or seats of the car.... when i drive my cars (99% of the time i'm the driver) i don't feel the pull or acceleration as much as when i'm a front passenger... why? one theory is because you aren't partially bracing yourself anymore like when you have hands on the wheels and feet moving the pedals when being the driver...it's wierd but it happens... Have your friend drive your g and you be the passenger as an experiment... |

Yea Fenix i think your right, sitting on the front passenger gets you scared some times when you know you have no control over the car and you could feel the pull like you said.
I just got the G few months ago but to be honest i never got a chance to drive it right when i got it, i had to put it away for winter. So in a way you could say i have a car but didnt drive it.. only drove it 4-5 times for 20-30 mins. I think it wouldnt hurt when i hld on to my break and acceleration it to 2000RPM and then let go of the break. Since i'll be only doing it one time i guess it wouldnt really hurt that much (i hope that would be the first n last time) I dont want to be doing it at every intersection... My friend havent drove the G, he was only with me when i gotten the car. I'm pretty much sure I could beat em easily but just afraid if i loose, i would look like a moran since i have a better car and i still loose... O well, race's a race. There's so much time till spring so i will do some research on the forum about this topic..hehe Thanks for your help. Manbir Last edited by Godfather; 01-13-2006 at 06:16 PM. |

the 4th generation maxima is tuned for low and midrange torque, just like the G35 sedans i was loaned. it's got to be the intake manifold and ecu tuning designs. i have a lightly modded 97 max gxe manual trans which i piloted to 14.05 @98mph in the 1/4mi. i used to embarass all the popular drag racing hondas and even near stock mustangs (easily mind you). i can miss two gears and still run 14.5. so that means consitent 14.2-14.3 in my sleep. that, and i always got 25mpg no matter what commuter conditions were like. 27mpg on the highway! don't forget a gigantic trunk, seating for 5 and a roof large enough to carry a 9 foot surfboard.the 4th generation maxima is definately an overachiever in my opinion. i still miss mine. i am planning to "make" my G35C into an overachiever soon. it will never have the utility and simplicity of the 4th gen max, but the max will never be as sexy or have the balance of the G35C. i believe it will be a driver's race until after the quartermile. the G35 definately has a ton more topend! note that this is with manual trans. you should win, but practice on the track wouldn't hurt. good luck.
