G vs cobra

simple question...I hope. How much different is the G coupe RWD system from an 01 cobra? 01 cobra has traction control and IRS (independant rear suspension)??

Is one better or worse??

I think the 01 cobras had the IRS that wasn't all that good. It allowed for too much wheel hop so launching it was a task.

However, the suspension on the cobra is softer than the G so I would assume you could launch the cobra a bit harder than the G.

what's the question?

They are work the same. Drive shaft into a limited rear slip. then out to the two wheels.

Are you looking for gear ratios? Strength differences?

heh i'm not questioning the speed of them, I had an 01 cobra and it was cool and quick but not as fast as the 03\04, the G could probably run w\ my 01.

handling wise the IRS is superior to the live axle.
Drag wise, well, it depends on the set up.
Conventional wisdom and history says the live axle is better for
drag racing (less wheel hop) but there are an awful lot of IRS cars
that make a lot of horsepower that do REALLY well at drag racing too.
Ford's own Cobra as you were mentioning, and the Ford GT itself is
a FAST car out of the gate...same with the new Corvette ZO6.
They all have IRS on them and do just fine at the drags.

Comparing the 01 Cobra's IRS to the G's...well that's beyond my knowledge
as to which is a better set up.

I personally would prefer a well set up IRS to the live axle.
But the live axle in the new Mustang GT is not too bad...and to keep costs
down Ford's using an even more modified version of that live axle
in the Cobra's replacement...the Shelby GT500.
Will have to wait to see how it does, many are upset about that though and wished Ford would of spent the extra money to put the IRS in the GT500.
Ford claims it would of meant a total repackaging of the Mustang's rear.

The Cobra had 320hp and 317lb-ft torque weighing in at 3430 lbs. Technically the Cobra should be a little faster than the G.

Well according the reviews, the cobras stock suspension is too soft making it handle rather poorly and was prone to wheel hop.

But if you are looking to go aftermarket there are 200 times as many options as there are with the G.
