Hmm, switching from G to 750i

I couldn't find a good reliable and powerful Luxury SUV that seats 7 for my taste and my wife obsolutely won't be pursuade to drive an Odyssey from her ML500 except the new R500 which is just an over priced Van with Mercedes badge. So, its come down to that I'll need to give up my G for a full size sedan. Which I'm thinking the new 750i or the R8L. I love the new LS460 but it won't be out until September of this year with 380hp and an additional 'L' (long) version.

Any recommendation of what I should get?

I'd probably take the 750i, but I've heard some women complain that it's not smooth enough for their taste's...so I'd definitely have her test drive it first.

The Audi a8 is nice, but I'd definitely take the Bimmer over it anyday.

The new Mercedes S Class is absolutely beautiful, looks like a mini-Maybach.

I'd also take a look at the Lexus GS 430 or the Infiniti M45, but I don't know if they are big enough of a sedan compared to a 7 series or LS.

I'd either get the 750 or the S Class....test drive both and see which I like better. I'm more into spirited driving so I'd prefer the BMW, it's a big car but handles almost as well as some sports cars.

Another thing to consider, if you're planning to keep the car for more than 3 years you might want to get the S Class because it's a new model and has a long life ahead of it. The 7 has gone through it's midlife refresh, so it's only going to be out for another 3 years....but if you lease it doesn't matter.

Goodluck!

g to top end luxury sedan... u win the lottery or something? i would definitely take the 7 series for a test drive ... may not like the i-drive and just general switches and functions. like transmission selection on the steering wheel column stock... is that still a function on the new 7 bimmers?

Hmmmm.

I have spent a lot of time driving the old (2 years ago) 745, LS430, and A8l. I have not spent any time in the new S class, my mom has a new E CDI. I think the best 'wife' car out of those is probably the lexus. It is comfortable, quiet, rides and handles reasonably well, and has comfortable seats with a good amount of space front and rear. I prefer 'driving' the BMW, I prefer the simple interfaces of the Audi and lexus and mercedes. My wife prefers to be seen in the BMW, but likes to drive the Lexus.

If it is going to be you driving it, I would recommend the 7 series, or the new S class. The lexus is not a car that is enjoyable to drive - great car - no fun. The upcoming '07 A/S8 looks cool. The current A8l is a very nice car to drive - it doesn't feel as strong or as light as you would be led to believe, the interior does not have the quality feel of the bmw/mercedes, but the car feels more sporty than the mercedes. And I like the design and colors of the interior better than the BMW and Merc. Another thing I like about the Audi is that you don't see as many of them around. Everyone has a big BMW or Mercedes.

The truth is that they all feel like boats. There is nothing sporty about a big 4500lb sedan (other than acceleration). If it was me I would be inclined to get an E55, or M5 instead. They are a little smaller, but so much more fun to drive. Even the old V8 M5 is an awesome car to drive.

I don't think you will fit 7 in any of these vehicles, even the L variants only offer a little more room. There are only seatbelts for 5

How about a new ML, or BMW X series for your wife and a year old M5 for you?

That was the plan but we couldn't agree on any of the existing SUVs. So, now we are shopping for a replacement for sedan instead. I wanted something around 70k, so the new S550 is out of the question. I also like it big and with a lot of power that pretty much takes out Lexus as well.

Thats the only SUV we both agreed on but we needed a 6/7 passenger car to replace our ML500. The second choice was the Range rover and its still a 5 passenger car and crossed it off. The LX470 was just too slow and out dated. The GX470 well just too common. The audi Q7 is not out but I don't want to deal with their Quality issue. That left me with just Caddies and Lincoln.

Well,

I think the new Escalade's are AWESOME! More power, more refinement, nicer on the interior and exterior. Also, to be quite honest if you need a 7 passenger car, like other's said, I don't think a full sized sedan will suit your needs. I'd take the Escalade, or the Yukon Denali if you're really looking for a BIG CAR.

I dont like the old cadis. They only have a name, but they suck, so does Lincoln Navo or Avi which ever one u take. My dad works for GM, and trust me Cadis are not the worth the money. After all its american!
I don know about the new Escalades but the old onces are not worth it, u will strart getting problems after some time.

Stick to German/Jap and u be happy

We both decided to Keep the ML500 which seat 7 and sell my G35 for a full size sedan. So, a big 5 seater it my primary objective. Looking for something that has the power, size, safety and reliablity all in one. Maybe I'll have to settle for a 550i instead for the performance. I'm going test drive tomorrow with BMW with my family so we'll see if 550i will be good enough or the 750i. Test drive the Lexus GS430 and its too slow for my taste. Its nice'n all but no sparks between me(the driver) and the car.

In case you guys change ur mind on the suv part ... MB is coming out with these new suv, the GL-450 that looks pretty damn sweet if u ask me, I saw it in person at the detroit auto show and it looked nice.

Or like everyone else said, the BMW and Audi are nice pics

I think you will find the 5 series to be on the smaller side ... how about an E55 AMG ??

the G isn't a bad vehicle but the QX56 is still a lot more room and a lot more features. it got bad reviews for the early QX56's to have smaller brakes. now they are still built very well.
