Close call. really close!

So I live here in Jersey, and we got hit pretty hard with snow a couple a days ago. And the past few days the temps have been up there, and the roads are all wet from the melting snow. Im leaving my schools parking lot last night around 9pm, and I have to make a left at the light. So, there is nobody in front of me, vdc is turned off (and not to mention my tires need to be changed) and I decide eh what the hell lets make the back end swing out a little bit...big mistake...next thing I know I nearly do a 360, my car flys into the curb divider and is headed straight for the driver side door of a car going the opposite way... and somehow between steering the wheel in the right direction and pure LUCK I land back in my lane facing the right direction and take off as if nothing at all happened. Deffenitely had some one watching out for me last night, because I ended up with not even a scratch to my car or rims, happened so damn fast now that I think back it was like a dream or something. Anyway I learned my lesson, get tires changed, and keep VDC on when the roads or wet!

***Ooops just realized I posted in the wrong forum

I did almost the same thing when I was a kid.

I was taking a left in my mom's Ford Fairmont. Stop laughing. It was wet out. Trying to be cool, I got into it (with massive oversteer) and the incredible horsepower and torque of the beastly I6 overcame the traction of the shopping cart tires the car was equipped with, and I started to go sideways. When I decided the rear of the car was out far enough, I added a dose of countersteer and realized Ford didn't engineer the ability to recognize countersteer into the Fairmont. Reluctantly, I continued around in a 360.

This was in the middle of a busy intersection in south Miami and I'm lucky I didn't kill myself or someone else. The cars following me through the turn had the brains to realize I was brainless, so they kept their distance.

I eventually stopped in the middle of the street, calmed a minute, then rejoined the land of civil drivers and went on my way. I took the first available turn and pulled into a lot to shake it off - it scared the $hit out of me.

Good thing you came out unscathed too.

VDC off... Guess you learned your lesson. For everyone else leave it on! It's there to save your *** in situations just like that.

We had a bad snow storm here on Wednesday, and I was stuck 50 miles from home, with OE Pilots with 20K miles. Needless to say the back tires are bald. This was the worst drive of my life. Will not do it again with out some snow tires.

VDC saved my life, well atleast the cars life. I was on the freeway going about 30 and the car just started to fish tail in the deep slush. The VDC took over and even in the sh*tty snow it was able to get my car straight again. The only thing I did was let off the gas, and keep the steering wheel pointed in the right direction. There were points on the freeway that I couldn't do over 10 or I would loose control.

It happened to me years ago except it was totally unintentional. It had been raining all day and there I was sitting in front of a red light. When the light turned green, I stepped on the gas and the car sprung a 360 twice and ended up pointing at the wrong direction. I just about peed in my pants. I was in my '69 Camaro.
