Test drove a SS Trailblazer. Faster than the G.

Well, i had been curious about the new Trailblazer SS. Its numbers are crazy fast, so i decided to go see what the fuss was about. I rode my bike down to our local Chevy Dealership where we have bought 6 cars. I called my Mom and Dad to come down to the dealership. We checked out a white SS in the showroom when a man came over and ask if we wanted to test drive one. We said yes. After the drivers licence stuff was dealt with, he said "I'll be right back". We stepped outside right as he pulled up in a Black '06 SS. I walked around behind to get in the rear passenger area when i heard the exhaust. i swear i got a boner listening to it. it was like bubububububu. That hot piece of *** 6.0ltr Corvette Based V8 with 395BHP. Damn ncie engine. After having my moment i got in. The guy said to bring it back in one piece, my dad was driving so i knew he was gonna test it out. We left the dealership, driving all nice. Went down another road for about two miles, got onto the freeway. Im serious, my dad left a set of baconstrips pulling onto the road. He just punched it. The tires just squeeled. (This is an AWD vehicle so i dont know how he fricken did it) We flew up the on-ramp, my mom was hangin on, we popped onto the freeway at about 110-115. Slowing down with the massive brakes to merge into traffic. This guy in a Infiniti QX4 was checkin this hot truck out.

After about 5 minutes we got onto a clover leaf and got to see how the lowerd and stiffend ride helped the cornering. Omg, it did. The car just flew into the turn at probably 35-40. This is an SUV i remind you. And it had more.

In a head to head race, straight line, this thing would blow away a stock sedan. Maybe even coupes.

I dont know, but i was impressed by chevy. This thing was fricken amazing.

I want my mom to get one, but she likes the new Tahoe. We are probably gonna get the Tahoe.

Anyways, just sharing my thoughts.

its definatly faster than a G.

This is what it looked like.

yeah that thing is major fast. but when you said that it could blow away a stock sedan, maybe coupes, it can do both depending on the driver. i'm guessing you dont know that the sedan and coupe pull the same 0-60 and the same 1/4. why does everyone think the coupe is faster? yeah the new tahoes are niceeeeeeeee. just make sure she gets the side moldings because it looks too plain without them.

Edited my post.

Yea, the Tahoe we also test drove that day was a Black LTZ with DVD, captain seats in the back, it was fully loaded. Only for MSRP of $48,500.

i was hugley impressed by the SS though. DAMN.

The Coupe is the same as the sedan right? Yea, they could beat the SS into the turns but on the straight the SS would roar past. Its almost a second faster 0-60.

And its a damn SUV! Crazy the way things are these days.

See, thats whats different about this car. i know exactly what you mean. Its the same in our pickup and Trailblazer LTZ. It hauls until about second.

This SS though, was different. It popped up to our regular Trailblazers TOP Speed in relative seconds. Our Trailblazer tops out at 112mph. This one blew right past that getting ON the freeway.

I was just blown away.

Couple of points. Sorry to bring facts into the discussion.

The Trailblazer SS can be had as a 2WD or 4WD model... it's possible you had a 2WD model.

Secondly, the fastest (lightest) in the 1/4 mile is probably the 2WD, and most tests put it right around 14 seconds...

Which is about the same as a manual tranny G35s run...

No doubt, that a big lumbering SUV is going to feel "fast" compared to a firmly planted G35 at the same speed. I've driven an SS, and couldn't believe how stiff (uncomfortable) the ride was. Which, I guess you need to keep the body motions of a 4700 pound, top-heavy vehicle in check.

Basically, the Trailblazer is a piece-of-crap chassis, and Chevy is looking for ways to make it more attractive and sell whatever it can before the new model comes out - wring every last cent out of this old platform. Stuffing a big engine in it is one way to meet that goal. No doubt, a heck of a deal in the performance area. And unlike most sport-based SUVs, it actually has a decent tow rating. If you never want to go offroad, it's could be an attractive option. Just get your gas card ready.

Oh.

Well, its still an SUV and its comparable to a G.

They need to send a message to Infiniti to put a V8 in the G. To compete with M3, C32 AMG, exc.

But anyways. its still a real nice truck. I'd drive it.

you are wrong. Check out the Motortrend article with the SS vs the Grand Cherokee SRT-8. They were drifting an AWD SS at 90mph....no tipping over. Did have a little body lean - but that is to be expected in a vehicle this size.

The SS is a nice truck, but its just a regular tahoe with more horsepower. Sure it can run the 1/4 mile in the same time as some G's, but if you put a 400 h.p. engine in a G, the G would kill the SS. I know the SS is a suv and alot heavier, but still the platform it is based off of is crap, and it has a horrible 4 speed auto as the only transmisson. Mabye give chevy a little more time to improve on it.
